We booked this as a private tour of Giza, Sakkara and Memphis from Alexandra. We traveled with Mahmoud and his driver. We enjoyed talking with Mahmoud and he did his best to answer our many questions. The driver was professional and got us to the Pyramids and back without issue, which is great as Alexandra has the worst traffic I've ever seen. However, there were a couple of items that could have gone better and are worth noting for others that might book this tour. I had specifically booked this tour to see the Pyramids of Giza and Sphinx, Sakkara and Memphis. Originally, our ship was expected to dock at 8 am and we scheduled for a 9:30 departure. I enquired about closing schedules for the sights and was told we would not have a problem seeing all sights. Later, our ship changed arrival and we were able to schedule our tour departure for 8 am, so I thought all was good. The evening before the tour, Mahmoud texted me and said he would meet us at 8 am. The day of the tour, we waited at 8, but Mahmoud did not show until after 8:30. He was apologetic and had brought us some snacks and water for the trip. Very nice. On the way to Cairo, I again asked if we would be able to see all sights on my list. He said yes, no problem. Traffic was cooperating and we had no unusual delays on the way. We got to the Giza pyramid and he rushed us through to make sure we could make all sights (he said). Then he said we should go to a paper store. I asked if that would affect our schedule, he said nit would not. We were really not interested in the paper store so we spent maybe 20 minutes there. By now it was close to noon. He asked if we wanted to eat, and we said only if we would have plenty of time to see the other two sights. He said we were managing our time well, so we would be fine. He took us to a buffet that appeared to be set up mainly for tourists. We took maybe 30 minutes to eat and then went to Sakkara, which was further from Giza than I had realized. We walked around for about 30 minutes until about 3 pm. When we got back in the car, he asked what we wanted to do next and I said go to "Memphis". That's when he informed us that Memphis closed at 3. This was the only day we had, so I felt blindsided and was really frustrated that we were not told all along, especially since I asked before and during the tour. If we had known, we could have managed our time differently or spent more time at Sakkara, (where we rushed) and also spent more time at Giza, (where we rushed). Subsequently I heard from others that Memphis didn't close at 3 so I wonder if Mahmoud just needed to get back. All in all, the day went fine, but I'm still disappointed.
Wonderful service. Very communicative. Great little snacks. Comfortable and safe ride and driver. Dina was so knowledgeable and fun I loved her storytelling. We had limited time with the boat all aboard being shortened. Would recommend asking more questions about tipping and purchasing options with cash so we were better prepared. Still can’t believe we visited the pyramids and sphynx. Lovely buffet restaurant with authentic Egyptian cuisine very tasty lots of options and spaghetti for those less adventurous. If we get to come back for more adventure we would definitely book this group and Dina again. Thanks for helping me cross off a bucket list item. My heart is full.
