My son and I really enjoyed this trip despite heavy rain through the day. Clear communication pre trip as the weather was a concern. Easy pick up from our Port Douglas hotel to meet Chris our driver and Boson his doggo sidekick! Drive to Cairns where we picked up the Skyrail. Tickets and logistics all arranged by Chris seamlessly.
The heavy rain reduced the visibility sadly - and the walking guides at the stations up. The app guide is really good. Kuranda is nothing much more than a village catering to tourists - not somewhere to spend any amount of time.
The main event for us did not disappoint. A 90 minute wind down to the valley below is stunning. A beautiful train and a great piece of engineering. We never tired at the views - waterfalls and rock tunnels - and as we were the last carriage - amazing views of the long train curving ahead of us. Beautiful wooden interiors. My adult son is a train fan and we both loved it. It even stopped raining!
Chris and Boson met us again and with a brief drink stop it was the disco bus back to PD via drop offs. As a small minibus group that was painless.
A huge thanks to all the team - would thoroughly recommend!

It sounds like the Scenic Railway was absolutely the highlight, especially with a train enthusiast on board! The waterfalls, tunnels and those views of the train winding around the mountain really are spectacular — and how perfectly timed that the rain finally stopped for you!
We’re also delighted everything from your Port Douglas pickup to Skyrail and the train connections ran seamlessly with Chris looking after you. Of course, Boson deserves some credit as co-pilot too! 🐶

Disappointing
It was very disappointing as we were told that the coach was running up the mountain as the train was out of action. Then we had to walk across to the skyrail from the butterfly house. I had elderly parents who both have knee problems. So it was good for them to walk that far.

Thank you for your feedback, and we’re genuinely sorry to hear that the day was disappointing for you and that your parents found the walking difficult.
Unfortunately, the Scenic Railway was unable to operate that day due to a fault identified on the bridge, and while we completely understand how disappointing that was, passenger safety must always come first. As soon as we were notified, we contacted all our guests and offered the option to continue with the amended itinerary, move to another day, or cancel.
We’re particularly sorry to hear about your parents’ difficulty with the walk. We normally collect and drop our guests between the Kuranda stations and the village, specifically so they don’t have to make that walk. Had we known your parents were struggling with their knees, we would absolutely have done everything we could to assist and make things easier for them.
We’re very sorry that the unexpected changes impacted your family’s experience and appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback with us.

Ordinary experience
The train not working , skyrail short, long way from Port Douglas for limited experience. Maybe the offer or information on the river cruise could of made up for the lack of train. Cocktails at Palm Cove a highlight

We would, however, like to clarify a couple of points for future travellers reading your review.
Unfortunately, the Kuranda Scenic Railway was not operating on the day of your tour. This was outside our control, and importantly, you were made aware of the change to the itinerary prior to travelling and chose to proceed with the tour.
Kuranda is located in the rainforest hinterland, and travelling there from Port Douglas naturally involves some distance. While we’d dearly love to bring Kuranda a little closer to Port Douglas, geography has so far refused to cooperate! 😊 The journey and transfers are therefore an unavoidable part of experiencing Kuranda from Port Douglas.
We’re sorry that you felt the revised experience was limited. Our team does its very best when an attraction is affected by circumstances outside our control to communicate changes clearly and ensure guests can make an informed decision about whether they still wish to travel.
We do appreciate your feedback regarding the river cruise information and will take that on board.
Thank you again for travelling with us, and we’re pleased that we could at least finish your day on a high note with cocktails in Palm Cove.

Pretty part of QLD
The experience was great travelling on the train but due to current closures to the Skyrail we only enjoyed a section to the falls. We really appreciated the Rangers talk at the falls and gained greater insight to the history of the area. The service operators were all committed to their jobs and everything went smoothly, considering there were alternative bus links etc.

Perfect Day Trip to Kuranda
It was a great day - very well organized.
Kuranda Train Ride, Skyrail and the butterfly sanctuary were part of the program.
Andrea shared a lot of information and told stories during the drive. Highly recommended.

A jewell not to be missed.
A superb day despite the weather. The guide, Pete, knew so much about the area and provided good instructions for pickup times and places. There was good commentary on the train too. Lots to do in Karanda but would have liked more time there. Train was late arriving at Freshwater station. Pleased to be able to enjoy the Skyway.

We had a fantastic day...
We had a fantastic day with Chris . The Kuranda expereince was fabulous and so enjoyable. So great to expereince and see the natural rain forest from both the train and sky rail . I would highly recommend

Overall the itinerary was...
Overall the itinerary was average and it felt like we spent more time travelling to each place than admiring the place itself. Due to maintenance work on the cable car we had to drive to Kuranda instead. Our tour guide Chris was pleasant and funny, however, he brought his dog with him which we felt was not ideal. The dog kept on brushing against our feet and laying down in our foot wells. People's allergies/phobias should be taken into consideration especially as Chris didn't provide any advance warning. We also felt rushed at Palm Cove as we weren't given any time to enjoy the sunset/views at the beach and instead were forced to eat our pizza quickly before getting back on the bus. On the return journey Chris had put fun disco lights and music on making the long journey back to Port Douglas more enjoyable.

Skyrail's current upgrade works have temporarily changed the usual flow of our Kuranda tours, and we appreciate that the additional road travel wasn't to your preference. We continually review our itineraries during these temporary operational changes and have made some adjustments going forward.
We normally allow approximately 30 minutes at Palm Cove, which gives guests an opportunity to enjoy this lovely final stop before returning to Port Douglas. We're sorry that on this occasion you felt you needed more time.
We'd also like to clarify that Chris's dog isn't simply a pet brought along for the day; he is Chris's support animal and an important part of his wellbeing. We do, however, appreciate your point regarding allergies and phobias and the importance of making guests aware in advance.
