カローデン戦場は1746年4月16日に最後のジャコバイト蜂起が終わった場所である。 1時間足らずでチャールズ・エドワード・ステュアート（ボニー・プリンス・チャーリー）率いるジャコバイト軍はカンバーランド公爵配下の政府軍に決定的に敗北した。 戦いはステュアート王政復古を望むジャコバイトの終焉を告げ、タータン、武器、ゲール語の使用禁止など、ハイランド全域に残忍な報復をもたらした。

コーダー城は15世紀のハイランドの城で、現在もコーダー家が居城として使用している。 実在の城は歴史的なマクベスの何世紀も後に建てられたが、シェイクスピアの『マクベス』と『コーダーの種』というタイトルを通じて結び付いていることは有名だ。 城は、かつて幸運をもたらすと信じられていた中空のオークの木を中心に成長し、今日では、豊かな家具を備えた部屋、タペストリー、家宝などを備えています。 屋外では、フォーマルな庭園、森の散策路、川沿いの小道が大きな見どころです。特に春と夏には、 歴史、伝説、美しい景色が融合した、ハイランド地方で最もロマンチックで保存状態の良い城の1つです。
インヴァネスをドライブしながら、ネス湖からムーラスファースに向かって流れ出るネス川沿いに設定されたハイランド地方の首都を通過します。 小さな都市ですが、歴史的に重要な都市です。かつて、ハイランド地方を支配する重要な拠点でした。 川岸には、砂岩の崖の上に建つインヴァネス城があります。 現在の建物は19世紀のものであるが、敷地は千年以上にわたって要塞化されている。 近くにはインヴァネス大聖堂やエデンコート劇場があり、街の文化的中心です。 インヴァネスはハイランドへの入り口として知られています。その先に広がる原風景に向かう前の物資と文明の終点です。

ドーレスビーチはネス湖の北端、インヴァネスの外れに位置し、湖を眺めることのできる最高の海岸線の景色をお楽しみいただけます。 長い帯状疱疹のビーチは、水面をまっすぐ下る広々とした眺望を提供します。写真や本物のネス湖のスケール感に最適です。 ここは散歩や野生動物観察、そしてもちろんネッシースポットとしても人気のローカルスポットです。 晴れた日には湖畔のはるか下まで見渡すことができ、特にここの夕日は美しい。
ボーリー修道院を過ぎると、1230年頃に創建された13世紀のヴァリスコーリアン修道院の跡が見えてきます。 スコットランド宗教改革までは重要な宗教の中心地であったが、その後は徐々に荒廃していった。 道路からでも、細かい石の彫刻と背の高い西の破風を見付けることができます。かつての修道院がいかに壮大なものであったか、その面影をとどめています。 今日では、村の中心部にあるのどかな史跡です。 ちらっと見ただけで、ハイランドの中世の歴史が日常に潜む素敵な例。
ここはネス湖の北端、ドーレス湖で、ネス湖が始まり、ネス川がインヴァネスに向かって流れ出ています。 ここからは湖をまっすぐ下っていくと、最も広く、最もクリアな景色の1つが得られ、その長さと深さをリアルに感じることができます。 ドーレスビーチは地元の人気スポットです。のどかな雰囲気で、開放的で、写真撮影に最適です。 穏やかな日には、水は人を惑わすほど穏やかに見えますが、ネス湖は深く、暗く、冷たく、岸から近くても見えます。
ロバートソンズ・ファームに立ち寄る際には、スコットランドを代表する名所となっている、毛の長い角の生えた牛、ケイティ＝モラグとジェイミーのハイランド牛に目を光らせましょう。 ハイランドの気候によく適しており、ここの道端近くでよく放牧されています。 この農場は、肥沃な土地と伝統的な農業で知られるボーリーとブラックアイル周辺の豊かな農業景観の一部である。 特に牛が近くにいるときは、素早く写真を撮るのに最適です。

The excursion with Thistle Excursions was excellent. We arrived in Invergordon on a cruise ship. The excursion gave an excellent overview of the area around Inverness and it was great to be able to spend some time at Dores, on the shores of Loch Ness. No other tour offers this. Eleanor was an amazing guide who embellished the tour with her knowledge, humour and efficiency. Highly recommended.

This tour was fabulous. To start off our cruise ship was delayed getting into port. Thistle Tours stayed in contact with us during the delay and was able to seemlessly replan the day so we didn’t miss out all - still while getting us back in time for our ship. We spent the day with June who was a great tour guide. She explained so much about Scotland to us. She had great stories and was the sweetest person. She made sure we got to see the things that were important to us. We really got a sense for Inverness and its history as well as modern day issues and values of the Scottish. I highly recommend this tour.

From start to finish, this was a brilliant tour. The organisation Portside was exceptional and the staff at Thistle were friendly and professional. Our tour guide, Mike, made the experience memorable. His local knowledge of the area was exceptional and his friendly approach was amazing. The countryside was spectacular and his accounts of important parts of Scottish history added to the experience. I would highly recommend this tour. Mike had us back to the cruise port with ample time before the all aboard was called. Brilliant!

Fairytale castle! Absolutely incredible architecture! The falconry show was amazing and ran at 11:30am and 2:30pm. The inside of the castle was nicely laid out and had helpful information boards in various languages dotted around. The staff were informative and kind. Food in the cafe was lovely and reasonably priced. Gets busy fast so pre book the earlier slots

Wonderful experience even though it down poured on us. Rona with Thistle excursions was a wonderful host and ran our jackets and umbrella down to the gardens for us! The castle is beautiful and we were provided with great knowledge and narration throughout by our guide. I left my phone at the castle and Rona and our driver Sue coordinated with a fellow driver to get it back to the boat and saved the day! If I get to return to Scotland I will definitely use thistle again!

We had the most enjoyable excursion with June, our personal guide, to the Castle, Falcony display, and Dornoch Village. She shared her sense of humor, extensive knowledge of the history and the area and went above and beyond to create for us a special memory of this part of Scotland adding in the Mermaid of the North and a great view of the numerous seals lounging on the sand bar. This excursion was fantastic with varied views around Inverness. Dunrobin Castle with its beautiful gardens, falconry display and area was well worth a trip. Dornoch was also a lovely little town to wander about. Black Rock Gorge was a great stop that was used in Harry Potter filming and as we had time we visited Glenmorangie distillery. Loved that we got to choose our last stop as we had time to fill. Well organised day with great communication before and during trip. Highly recommend. Loved the information sheet given as a guide to places we visited.
