We had a private tour of Pompeii with Carmine as a group of four, and it was an excellent experience! Carmine was friendly, incredibly knowledgeable, and clearly knew Pompeii inside and out. He guided us through the ruins in a way that helped us avoid most of the crowds, making the experience even more enjoyable. Our train arrived over an hour late, and we were so grateful that Carmine patiently waited for us and still gave us the complete tour. Although it rained during our visit, the tour was absolutely amazing! Be sure to follow the directions you receive to buy your tickets online ahead of time. This saved us from standing in a very long line. We highly recommend Carmine to anyone visiting Pompeii. He made our experience truly memorable!

Danielle was an excellent guide. Her local knowledge shone throughout the tour. Due to the thunderstorm we took cover and met up with Danielle after a couple of phone-calls. We weren’t exactly the “ideal” party as we had visited Pompeii on a group tour 3 days before, but Danielle took that in her stride showing us things we hadn’t seen and didn’t know about. She was also able to contrast the experience of the eruption between the people of Herculaneum and Pompeii. Her knowledge of Pompeiian art history, their domestic and social lives, work, and leisure time was excellent. Thoroughly recommend.

We booked this private (4 of us) 2-hour guided tour of Pompei for a Celebrity Ascent cruise excursion. It was wonderful - our guide, Angela, was terrific. Communication via email and WhatsApp was excellent. Easy to find the meeting place at Swiss Restaurant at Piazza Esedra right outside the Porta Marina entrance gate. Angela spoke excellent English, had a lot of background and stories about Pompei, and importantly shuttled us around to avoid the big tour groups so it felt very private. She also pointed out the best places for photos. Of course in a 2-hour tour you can only see highlights of the huge site, but Angela made sure to mark routes on the map for us to wander around on our own, afterwards. A private tour like this one is definitely the way to go for Pompei. I’d highly recommend that you ask for Angela by name as your guide. Note that this is Pompei tour only - you need to book your own transport from port to Pompeii site.

Viator's tour guide was exceptional. She was not only knowledgeable, but so passionate she made me feel like I was actually there when the city was thriving. I learned so much about the city. Its rise and fall. Its many occupants and how daily life was lived. This was my last guided tour of a three-week European journey, and it was by far the best experience of the entire trip. Alona is a credit to Viator and the city of Pompeii. She exudes enthusiasm and energy. I could not have asked for a better tour guide. I could have continued another three hours. Well, done Alona!!! My heartfelt appreciation and thanks. I will be back!

Friendly, energetic, and enthusiastic, Daniella made the history of Pompei almost come alive. Her enthusiasm was infectious; the excitement she shared of the ongoing excavations in region IX transformed us into wannabe archaeologists. It was a privilege to be her students for the afternoon!
