Our Food, Tasty & History Tour in Civitavecchia was the perfect way to experience this charming Italian port beyond the cruise terminal. If you think Civitavecchia is just a stop on the way to Rome, think again! Our guide, a local, was everything you could hope for—professional, knowledgeable, accommodating, and genuinely passionate about sharing the city’s history, culture, and culinary traditions. Their love for Civitavecchia was contagious, and every story made us appreciate this beautiful seaside town even more. Despite the intense July heat, our guide kept the tour enjoyable and relaxed, adjusting the pace to keep everyone comfortable while making sure we didn’t miss a thing. Their engaging personality, sense of humor, and willingness to answer every question made the experience feel like we were exploring the city with a friend rather than taking a tour. The food was delicious and authentically Italian, with each tasting carefully selected to showcase the local flavors and traditions. Between bites, we wandered through historic streets, learned fascinating stories about the city’s past, and discovered hidden gems we never would have found on our own. The meeting place was confusing and called the Viator office. They told us in front of the fire station but instead it was in front of the exit after you get off the shuttle bus.

We enjoyed our food tour of Civitavecchia. Our tour guide, Ilaria, was delightful. She was very knowledgeable, friendly, organized, and accommodating from start to finish. We learned so much while exploring this quaint port city. Ilaria offered fascinating insights into the history and culture which made every stop even more meaningful. We enjoyed gelato, pizza, and an amazing lunch with an abundance of delicious Italian food. If you’re looking for an enjoyable food tour, we couldn’t recommend this activity more highly!
This was a wonderful tour to truly understand the strong history of Civitavecchia. So many people run to Rome (yes, you should), but do not negate this port. Our guide, Paola, was so knowledgeable and passionate about her home. I learned quite a bit on this tour and, of course, ate well. If you need a break from Rome or want to enhance your knowledge of the area, I highly recommend this tour.
