I had a wonderful time on Milda’s Regular Walking Tour of Jewish Vilnius! Milda is an excellent guide, and truly knew her stuff. I was wowed by her wider knowledge of religion, and religious history as a whole, and it was on this basis that she was able to start off the tour, explaining about the history of Jewish people in Lithuania, and then really hone in upon what happened in to the Jewish people in Vilnius, throughout the centuries. I liked that she presented a timeline that not only paid full respect to the atrocities that happened to the community under both Nazi and Soviet occupation, but celebrated Jewish culture, and held up their achievements. I spoke with a Jewish friend, after the tour, explaining this, and she told me how important a tour like this is (she hasn’t yet been to Vilnius but I can guarantee she will attend this tour when she does!). Milda mentioned the different groups of Jewish people within Vilnius and how they grew, and then sadly decreased. Without singling anyone out, she invited people to raise their hand if they belonged to, or had ancestry from any of these communities. Many did, and you could really see the engagement from these people throughout the tour. You could tell that they appreciated hearing the stories and learning about different people, and seeing different places, as we all did. Whether you’re of a Jewish background, or just fascinated by history as a whole, I would absolutely recommend this tour. It was a reminder that people are not so different from each other, and a lesson to avoid such atrocities in future.

A very informative and worthwhile walking tour that offered a fascinating insight into the Jewish history and heritage of Vilnius. Our guide was knowledgeable and explained everything clearly and respectfully, without being overwhelming. The tour also took us to places and corners that would have been difficult to find on our own, which made the experience especially valuable. A great way to discover an important part of Vilnius’s history and understand the city from a different perspective. Highly recommended!

Knowledgeable and engaging guide who also recommended various books and films to learn more. She obtained access for us to see an active archaeological site where the underground remains of a synagogue destroyed during WWII are being uncovered. Patiently answered all of our questions and asked the group for our personal family stories before wrapping up the tour, which I thought was a really meaningful.

This was a fantastic tour. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and interesting and really brought the history to life. To anyone with any Lithuanian Jewish heritage this is definitely a 100% must do tour, but I would also highly recommend it to anyone visiting Vilnius. Thank you!
