エカンバレスワラール寺院は、タミル・ナードゥ州カーンチプラムにある、インドで最も古く崇拝されているシヴァ寺院の1つである。 エカンバラナタールとしてシヴァ神に捧げられ、そびえ立つゴープラム（門）と複雑な彫刻が印象的なドラヴィダ建築が特徴。 樹齢3,500年以上とされるマンゴーの霊木で有名で、シャイヴィート信仰の意義は大きい。 巡礼の要衝で、信者も観光客も訪れる。
タミル・ナードゥ州カーンチプラムにあるカイラサナータル寺院は、ドラヴィダ建築の最初期の例の一つであり、8世紀に遡る。 シヴァ神に捧げられたこの寺院は、見事な繊細な彫刻と静謐な雰囲気で注目に値する。 寺院複合体は、一連の小さな祠、ユニークな砂岩の構造、様々な神々や神話の場面を描いた美しい彫刻を特徴としています。 その建築の輝きはしばしば賞賛され、シャイヴィー派崇拝者にとって重要な巡礼地となっている。
ママラプラムの南端で身を寄せ合った五つのラーサは、驚くべきことに、すべて単一の大きな岩から彫られていた。 これら7世紀の立派な寺院はそれぞれヒンドゥー教の神に捧げられ、現在では叙事詩『マハーバーラタ』に登場する5人の英雄兄弟、あるいは共通の妻であるドラウパディーの1人または複数にちなんで名付けられている。 ラサは200年前にイギリス人によって発掘されるまで砂の中に隠されていた。 ラタはサンスクリット語で「戦車」を意味し、寺院の形態や神々の乗り物としての機能を指す場合もある。 もともとは礼拝所ではなく建築模型として使われていたと考えられています
また、マハーバーラタ叙事詩の傑作全体が彫られた100フィート×45フィートのバスレリーフ「アルジュナの懺悔」も訪れます。
次の停止はクリシュナのバターボールで、直径5メートルのボール状の巨礫が斜面に不安定に止まっていて、ニュートンの重力の法則に逆らっているという不思議な光景です！
庭園と廃墟となった法廷に囲まれた、海を見下ろす岩山に切り立った優雅な壮大な拳のように佇む2つの塔を持つショア寺院は、パッラバ建築の高さとパッラバ王の海洋への野心を象徴しています。 その小さなサイズは、その優れたプロポーションと彫刻の最高品質を偽り、多くは今、漠然と印象派の装飾に侵食されています。 8世紀にナラシンハヴァルマン2世のもとで建てられた、タミル・ナードゥ州最古の重要な自立式石造寺院です。
