壮麗な寺院はベンガル湾を見渡せ、マハーバリプラムが王国の主要な港であったパッラーヴァ朝時代には重要な中心地であった。 8世紀初頭にラージャ・シンハ王によって建てられたショア寺院は、インドの建築景観におけるランドマークです。 マルコ・ポーロはこれを七塔と呼んだ。 現存する寺院は、かつて海上交通の灯台となっていた7つの寺院のうち、最後に残ったものである。
これらは7世紀に建てられた岩盤切片式の寺院建築である。 5台のラタまたはチャリオットはそれぞれ、マハーバーラト叙事詩の主役であるドラウパディー、アルジュナ、ナクル・サハデーヴァ、ビーマ、ユディスターに捧げられている。 ナクル・サハデーヴァのラタの隣には象の彫刻もある。 ゾウの後方に向かって立つと、戦車の後方とゾウの間に不気味な類似性があることに気づく。
次は、マハーバーラタの鮮やかな情景を描いた、インドで最も壮麗な古代芸術作品の一つとされるバスレリーフのモニュメント、アルジュナのペナーチェを訪れます。 レリーフは長さ100フィート、高さ45フィート！ 主に語られているのは、パーンダヴァ兄弟の1人であるアルジュナがシヴァ神の武器を手に入れるために厳しい禁欲を行った経緯である。
この好奇心旺盛な巨礫は、ニュートンの重力の法則に逆らっているように見え、千年以上も斜面でこの不安定な位置にいるにもかかわらず、1インチも動いていない。
ヴァラハ洞窟は花崗岩の巨大な破片から彫られたもので、7世紀にさかのぼる。 この寺院が完成するまでに数十年を要した。
パーンダヴァ洞窟はマハーバリプラム最大の洞窟寺院で、洞窟は6本の柱と2本のピラスターで支えられています。
この洞窟には、マハーバリプラムの最も印象的な芸術作品2点が居住している。
一石を彫り出した堂々とした車。 元々はシヴァ神を祀っていITが、現在は息子のガネーシュ神が祀られている。
ITは640年に建てられたインド最古の灯台であり、世界でも最も古い灯台の一つです。

This trip was worth every penny. We rode in a comfortable car. We saw four beautiful historical places and got interesting information about each of them.
