I did this as a solo trip to meet new people and drink great wine. It was so much fun. I highly recommend the experience.

This is a wonderful calm experience that involves great food and wine. We had Joey Zimmerman and he was awesome . I definitely recommend doing it again with him.

We had a small group tour starting in Austin driving out to the Hill Country. We had never been outside Austin and wasn't aware that there was a wine country region (Texas Hill Country) near Ausitn about an hour away. Frist stop was the eat lunch at the Salt Lick BBQ restaurant in Driftwood. BBQ was amazing where you'd want The Thurman's Choice plate of brisket (best in the world), Pork Ribs and Sausage or splurge for a Family Style (everything) with all sides being delicious. If you want wine with your meal then walk back to the Salt Lick Cellars (tasting room with souvenirs) building behind the restaurant. We ordered the Salt Lick BBQ Red wine since it sounded like it should be with a BBQ plate (very tasty). We also bought some flavored olive oils that were awesome. We crossed the street to the Fall creek Vineyards. A high-end small winery (low production) with nice wines but a little pricy for the value of the wine they produce (closer to Napa prices). Then drove to Duchman Family Winery that is a large scale winery with high production yields, large selections of various wines and rental facilities for events. The wines are very affordable for the quality of wines they produce. We were surprised that we enjoyed many of the wines since we tasted all of the ones they had opened, We then joined their wine club to have a case of wine shipped to Georgia a few times a year (cost per bottle with shipping fee was way below local wine store prices of comparable wines so that was a no brainer decision). That was the tour so if you love great Texas BBQ and wine the this is your tour. And think about joining a wine club if you can since it helps local family owned wineries to stay in business and also provides you with interesting/hard to obtain wines to share with your friends (or not).

From the moment we entered the Visitor's Center until the tour concluded, the experience was beyond wonderful! Our guide, Mike Wallace, was so professional but at the same time so funny, knowledgeable, courteous, and friendly. My husband is handicapped, and Mike went so much out of his way to help make him comfortable and safe during the entire tour. We learned so many interesting facts about Austin in general as well as the Hill Country. The wineries were beautiful and the staff members were pleasant and helpful. I just can't express adequately how much we enjoyed this experience. Thank you Viator and Mike for the special memories!!! Jamie

After a rough start, we had a great afternoon of barbecue and wine with Evan, our driver and tour guide extraordinaire. Our tickets did not mention meeting at the visitors center. So we started at the wrong location but the tour improved once we connected with Evan and our group. The barbecue and sides were delicious at Salt Lick. The two winery’s we visited provided a great tasting experience. Evan is an engaging, fun tour guide who gave us the history of the sites we visited and more. This was an enjoyable half day excursion into Texas Hill Country! I recommend Hill Country BBQ and Wine with Detour Travel.

I loved this tour. I booked a tour for my mom and I to celebrate her birthday. This was her first time in Austin and this tour was a great way to experience a few Austin highlights. Austin detours says that you will come a strangers and leave his friends and that is absolutely true. Evan did an amazing job getting to know each of us individually, creating group activities during the ride, and driving conversation between the tour participants. After our tour half of the participants met later to go line dancing and have a night out on the town!

It was a relaxed and fun trip. Wished we had extra time to tour Salt Lick BBQ in Driftwood instead of just having lunch. Winding through the scenic Texas Hill Country leading to local wineries offered incredible views and good local pours. Connor did a really good job keeping us entertained.

Ike was an EXCELLENT guide! He was fun and very knowledgeable. The food and wine were some of the best. I highly recommend this tour.
