I was picked up at the hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle with very comfortable seats. The guide answered all my questions and gave me many details about the places visited. The driver was very kind. For lunch, we had a salad, a traditional Senegalese chicken dish and a dessert. All were good. A successful trip, but the price seems too high for what was offered.
The tour was relaxing, worry free and fun. The guide made the day go smoothly. The experiences were exciting, but something anyone could do.
Oumar was an exceptional tour guide—knowledgeable, engaging, and truly unforgettable. He has a deep understanding of Senegal’s social economics, religion, and history, and he shared his insights in a way that was both informative and enjoyable. As we walked through the fishing village, he offered a wealth of information and pointed out perfect spots to capture beautiful, lasting photos. Oumar speaks excellent English and has a warm, friendly, and humorous personality that made the experience even more enjoyable. He took great care of my daughter and me, making sure we stayed hydrated and that all of our questions were thoroughly answered. One of the highlights of the tour was visiting Lac Rose (Pink Lake). It was an incredible experience to go out onto the lake and see its stunning pink hue in person. We watched as a man harvested salt from the water, and Oumar clearly explained the entire process. The salt harvester even demonstrated how he could float due to the lake’s high salt concentration, which was fascinating to see. Afterward, we enjoyed lunch at a hotel before ending the day with an exciting dune buggy ride along the beach. Throughout the tour, Oumar made sure I captured the most Instagram-worthy photos I could have asked for. If you take this tour, I highly recommend requesting Oumar as your guide. He truly made the experience unforgettable.
Oumar was a great guide! Would highly recommend for female solo travelers! He was highly flexible and ensured I got to see everything that I wanted.
Omar was an outstanding guide. He is incredibly knowledgeable and clearly experienced. His English is excellent. He took great care of me (with some mobility issues) to ensure I was comfortable and able to see everything of interest to me. I learned so much about the local customs and culture from him as well.
We just an amazing two days with Oumar Kebe of Senegal Odyssey Tours and his driver, Samba. What a wonderful introduction to Dakar and Senegal they provided. Omar speaks English perfectly thanks to his years spent living in Chicago. Samba was calm, cheerful and always smiling despite terrible traffic in the city. I am a travel agent and have visited more than 80 countries. The Kayar fishing village is unique among all the places I've ever been. It is a "can't miss" experience. You'll see hundreds of colorful boats on the beach and hordes of men and woman rushing to off-load, buy and clean the fishermen's catch. If you don't watch carefully, the waves will wash up over your shoes as they did on mine. Next we were off to the Pink Lake where, sadly, it was too windy to go out. But Omar gave us a complete explanation of the salt harvesting and drying process, and then led us on fun, fast paced dune buggy ride along a nearly deserted beach and took us to lunch at a lovely little hotel, where we had huge plates of Senegal's renowned chicken and onion dish. It was long drive to and from the sights, but the drive was an experience in itself -- seeing stall overflowing with vegetable, horse-drawn carts boys hanging off the backs of local "buses" and a booming construction economy. Don't miss going on a tour with Omar and getting to know the "real" Senegal and also take the City and Goree Island tour which I will review separately.
This would be the most highlighted experience in my trip to Africa. Only one full day's travel to the pink lake and the fishing village is sufficient to have a taste of Oumar's excellent guidance. Grown up in a small village near Dakar himself, Oumar is so knowledgable that he could walk you from the history, then to the culture, finally to the ethnic configuration of Senegal in an afternoon, which, as a researcher in political economy would be more than delighted to listen to. Although I booked the trip within 24 hours before the meeting time, Oumar still confirmed and took a good care of me during the whole trip. Knowing that I'm taking the flight back to NYC right after the trip at 2am the next day, Oumar invited me to his house to take a shower and have a traditional Senegalese dinner, which I liked a loooooot!
I booked this excursion at the last minute after another one was cancelled. I had such a great time thanks to my amazing guide, Oumar, who was extremely knowledgeable and taught me so much about Senegal and the local culture. My favorite part was without a doubt the ride through the dunes and the fishing village. Thank you Oumar!
My brother and I travelled from the USA (California) to Senegal for an adventurous vacation. We booked this tour to experience some local culture outside of Dakar. It was an amazing experience! Our guide, Oumar Kebe, was the best!! He spoke perfect English, was friendly, funny and extremely knowledgeable about everything! We felt very safe and experienced amazing Senegalese culture like we hoped for. We drove to the fishing village where we viewed the life of the locals. We saw numerous boats on shore coming and going into the ocean and people dressed in typical colorful clothes collecting and selling fish on the beach. Oumar explained the local life to us very well. We stopped and visited a local market on the way to the pink lake where Oumar took the time to buy some local goods so we could capture some great pictures of the locals. The pink lake was very amazing too. We were able to see the pink hue of the lake and see the locals working to collect the salt and learned about the entire process. After that, we went on a 4x4 ride in the sand dunes and along the gorgeous ocean coastline. We went to a beautiful look out point to take pictures. We ended our day with a typical and delicious lunch at a quiet and beautiful resort. Make sure you take this tour and make sure you request Oumar as your guide! We highly recommend him! We hope to return to Senegal one day for more tours with Oumar! ~Deborah & David White (California, USA)
I highly appreciate your valuable feedback. There is absolutely no better way to make me love my job more than I always do. Such a delight to have had you as guests. My tours have a start time but, they don't end until my clients are happy. That's the definition of who I am as a knowledgeable and professional tour guide.
