Know before you go
Short, straight answers to the questions every Goa visitor asks before booking.
The sweet-spot months
November to February brings warm, dry, sunny weather ideal for the beaches and sightseeing — the prime time to visit Goa.
Peak season (Nov–Feb)
Warm, dry and sunny with pleasant evenings, perfect for the beaches, cruises and nightlife; the best and busiest season.
Hot (Mar–May)
Hot and humid, with quieter beaches and lower prices; the sea is warm but midday is intense.
Monsoon (Jun–Sep)
Heavy rains turn Goa lush and green, with dramatic waterfalls like Dudhsagar in full flow; many shacks close but it’s atmospheric and cheap.
Festive season
Christmas, New Year and the Goa Carnival (around February) are vibrant and very busy — book well ahead.
Dudhsagar in the rains
Dudhsagar Falls is most powerful just after the monsoon, though jeep access can be seasonal — check when booking.
One day
Beaches, Old Goa and a river cruise.
Two days
Add the Dudhsagar waterfalls and spices.
Three days
The sweet spot: North Goa, Dudhsagar, and South Goa.
Four to five days
Add diving, more beaches and inland trips.
A week or more
Relax across the beaches and explore at leisure.
Travelling with kids
Mix calm beaches, cruises and spice farms.
Scooter & bike hire
Renting a scooter is the classic, cheap way to explore Goa’s beaches and lanes — ride carefully and wear a helmet.
Taxis & ride apps
Taxis and apps like Goa Miles operate; agree fares or use the app, as distances between beaches can be long.
Tour transfers
Most Dudhsagar, Old Goa and cruise tours include hotel pickup.
Local buses
Cheap local buses link the towns and some beaches, though they can be slow and crowded.
Car & driver
Hiring a car with a driver is comfortable for sightseeing and covering both north and south.
From the airport
Goa’s airports (Dabolim and Mopa) are around 45 minutes to 1.5 hours from the main beaches by taxi.
Indian rupee
India uses the rupee; cards work in hotels and bigger venues, but carry cash for shacks, markets, taxis and small shops.
Dress for churches
At Old Goa’s churches, dress modestly — cover shoulders and knees — out of respect.
Hire a scooter carefully
Scooters are great for exploring but ride cautiously, wear a helmet and carry your licence.
Sun protection
The coastal sun is strong; bring sunscreen, a hat and water for the beaches and tours.
North vs South
Base yourself in the north for nightlife and energy, or the south for calm, serene beaches.
