El sendero de Salkantay a Machu Picchu es una espectacular caminata para disfrutar de altos picos, montañas coronadas de nieve y del valle tropical. El sendero Salkantay es una de las 25 mejores caminatas de todo el mundo, según la revista National Geographic Traveler. La quechuas y preincaicos denominaron a esta montaña Apu Salkantay (el dios protector). Salkantay está situada en la cordillera de Vilcabamba y la altitud es de unos 6271 m s. n. m. (20 574 pies). Se trata de una buena alternativa al camino inca.

My sister and I went for the 4days/3nights Salktanay Trek to Machu Picchu and it was beyond amazing, highly recommended. Despite of this, I still feel like I have to give an honest review as we met several complications during the trek, mostly due to lack of communication from the organizers to our guide(s), as well as a general feeling of "last minute solutions" often driven by us having to request basic stuff from our guide for it to happen - even our train back to Cusco on the final day, where we did not get the tickets before 4 hours before we had to enter Machu Picchu, and then it was booked 3h after our entrance time leaving us not enough time. I feel you could've easily walked the trek without an agency given how we still had to spend time and energy on ensuring things were OK along the way.

The trek was amazing! A few days of the trek were very challenging, but the stunning scenery made up for it. The food and accommodations were great and our guide Jean Paul was extremely knowledgeable and made our experience very fun and exciting!

I can't say enough great things about this excursion. The tour guide Rene, the cooks and the horse handlers were all incredible in making our experience the best it could be. Great food!! Incredible sights for the entire trek and a great opportunity to challenge yourself, meet other travelers, and learn about Inca history and tradition. Rene was very knowledgeable and gracious in sharing the culture with us. I would strongly recommend making time for this if you're spending some time in Peru!

The food was super delicious and extremely much for 8 people, as was our guide Luis. He knows a lot about nature, coca and of course the Incas. He himself believes in the Inca faith and can therefore teach you the rituals and thoughts of the Incas. Was a great experience with a great guide!
