I am happy I went. This is not a place I would want to revisit necessarily, but it is certainly something I was happy to do one time. I am from the area, but I just wanted to experience a different kind of museum. Lots of fun facts, and considering the subject, it was not displayed in poor taste. They used lots of discretion while getting the history across. I felt like they did a good job telling the story from start to finish as you went through the museum. It was done orderly. I’d say 90 minutes is about all the time I would want to spend here. If I would have read every single thing on display, I might have been there closer to 2 1/2 hours. In addition, there were restrooms available, and they were very well maintained.
The museum was fantastic. We did the self guided tour and really took our time. It was interesting, immersive and interactive for a couple. We learned so much. The gift shop was fun and unique too.
The Storyville Museum was one of the highlights of our trip to New Orleans. It’s thoughtfully curated, highly informative, and presents the history of Storyville with respect and authenticity rather than sensationalism. The immersive exhibits and fascinating stories gave us a much deeper appreciation for the city’s history and the origins of jazz. If you’re looking for something unique in the French Quarter, this museum is well worth the visit.
This was a very informative and interesting museum. The museum was well-maintained, and the ladies at the front desk were very friendly. I highly recommend this as an adult-only activity. It was only about 1 1/2 hours to complete it, and there is a parking lot right next to it, so easy to park.
This museum is great. It really gives a great history and look into the Red Light District. It's interactive and entertaining.
Very informative. Loved the hands-on exhibits.
Visiting this museum was a highlight of our visit to Nola. We learned so many things that we would not have learned elsewhere. The exhibits are well-curated and engaging. All of the information was interesting and thought-provoking, as well as being sensitive to the perspectives of the women who lived and worked in Storyville. We plan on visiting this museum again, on our next visit to Nola.
A fascinating museum with modern exhibits and excellently curated. It tells the story of prostitution in New Orleans by explaining the history of the city. It tells the story of French and Spanish colonization, slavery, and jazz. Extremely well done.
I travel to NOLA a couple of times a year and during my last visit for the French Quarter festival I was told about Storyville. If you want to learn about the city's history this is a must stop. The self guided tour starts with the Spanish and French early settlements. Learn how to keep the early male settlers happy the French government sent French women for the men to marry. As it turned out they became prostitutes for the men not wives. Learn about the areas that the brothels occupied and see a replica of the one room where business was conducted. Learn why the red light became a symbol and the trainmen's lantern. Truly a fascinating experience. It took me 2 hours to go through the museum with all the info to read.
Wow!!! So interesting and informative. So much history. It was a treat to spend a few hours here. Staff very nice.
