Very fun experience - walked through the market, including the area where locals shop, and learned a great deal about foods of the region. Mauricio was a wonderful guide. Afterwards we headed to the studio and prepared a delicious feast (!). He was very accommodating for our group that included vegan and vegetarian members. Highly recommended!
Great experience with very good quality food and our chef was amazing. Had a great evening despite not doing that much of the actual preparation/cooking ourselves as lots already done. Also, there was only one free cocktail not two free ones as advertised. Overall would recommend as a unique experience.
Absolutely amazing experience at Cusco Culinary. We take cooking classes whenever we travel, and this was easily one of the best. Mauricio was hilarious, knowledgeable, and an incredible chef and guide. I’m vegan, my wife is lactose intolerant, and apparently we enjoy making chefs work harder. He handled it effortlessly, everything was adapted perfectly, and there was enough food to feed a small Peruvian village. The ceviches were fantastic, the stuffed pepper was a standout, and the dessert was almost too beautiful to eat. Almost. We also tried tons of local fruits and vegetables we’d never encountered in the U.S. The market tour was a huge highlight. Mauricio seems to know everyone, showed us his favorite vendors, taught us about the ingredients, and gave us the confidence to explore it ourselves afterward. Come hungry. Very hungry. And ask for Mauricio.
I felt that Mauricio was very knowledgeable and kind hearted. He took us through the market asking us questions to get to know us but also telling us about different cultural aspects while picking out groceries. The cooking class was very chill and relaxing. It was nice to try Peruvian food while getting to know more about the culture. Thanks for the great experience Mauricio!
Great experience!! You truly get to try and understand the Peruvian cuisine!! They were accommodating for my wife who has a gluten allergy. Highly Recommend!
An incredible experience overall. We started with a tour of the Cusco central market. Our guide and chef Mauricio was super knowledgeable and insightful on both the products there and the cultural significance behind them. He taught us about the various potatoes, fruits, and more, and we got to try some chocolate. After the market it was a short walk to his studio, which was super nice and clean with the perfect set up for a cooking lesson. After crafting a pisco sour to start, our first course was ceviche. There were three of us, and we each made a different type of ceviche, all of which were interesting and delicious. From there we made a soup, then a potato and cheese baked dish as a side for the main course, which was bell peppers stuffed with peas, zucchini, chilis, olives, and other seasonings. To cap it off, we made lucuma gnocchi for dessert, which was served with custard apple sorbet, gooseberries, and cactus fruit. The dishes were simple yet delicious. A lot of the pastes and such were prepared beforehand, but we did enough ourselves that we felt that extra sense of accomplishment while eating the food. It felt like the perfect blend of hands on and ease of cooking. Loved it, highly recommend, just take it light on the pisco sour if it’s your first day at altitude, and especially if you’re a lightweight like me.
This was such an awesome experience!!! Great way to see the San Pedro Market and learn about many different Peruvian dishes. The food was great and the pisco sour was delicious - highly recommend!
