Even though I have seen the fireflies many times as I lived in Kuala Lumpur before but have decided to do such a tour again with my daughter as she has never seen them before. The driver picked us up from our hotel and drove us to the meeting place where our guide Sasi met us in the big bus that took the whole group to Kuala Selangor. It was around a 10-15min walk all the way up the hill to the lighthouse and halfway through you have been met the the cute and charming monkeys whereby you constantly had to stop to take a million photos of them. At the top you could buy some food for RM10 and feed the monkeys but just make sure you don’t wear any sunglasses as they can get a bit naughty sometimes as they know that you carry a bag of food and they will literally climb up on you to take it away or argue. After the monkey visit we drove to a small fisher village and had some actually good food (if you have allergies you just have to let the guide know in advance). From the dinner we drove back to the pier to take the boat far away from all the lights into the mangroves so that you could see the magical fireflies (the darker the better you see the tiny “light bulbs”). From there we the boat took us to a place where you normally can see the blue tears which is not always the case. Definitely worth going with the family when in Kuala Lumpur.
The monkeys were great, fireflies were great but the plankton in the water was barely visible and not like the advert. Guide was not very animated and was more interested in his phone. Did not address customers by name and appeared quite rude. Come, come
We had a brilliant time on the Firefly & Blue Tears tour! Our guide, Sasi, was absolutely fabulous. He generously shared his deep local knowledge of Kuala Lumpur and the surrounding villages. His historical insights were wonderful, giving us a fascinating glimpse into what life was like for both locals and the British a century ago. Feeding the monkeys was brilliant and the stop for food in the local village was exceptional—everything was served hot, fast, varied, and genuinely delicious. The boat trip itself was brilliant. Seeing the fireflies was magic, and while the "blue tears" were a bit subtle rather than bright blue, you could still clearly see flashes of light glowing along the way. We thoroughly recommend this experience, especially if you're lucky enough to have Sasi and his great driver taking care of you!
It was a beautiful experience, we managed to see what the guide explained to us in detail. Chandran, our guide, was a kind and helpful person. I highly recommend the experience.
This was a wonderful and well-organized tour from start to finish. We enjoyed visiting the historic fort, having dinner in the fishing village, and taking the evening boat rides. The fireflies were absolutely beautiful, but the highlight was seeing the glowing blue plankton beneath the dark sky. It felt almost unreal and was a very memorable experience. Bring insect repellent and wear comfortable shoes, but otherwise just relax and enjoy the evening. Highly recommended.
Well organised trip . Bus was on time .the guide Charlee was very helpful. . Food was good . The boat trip was exit
Unique experience excellent value for money. Air conditioned coach spotless and well appointed, Diner on the river enabled us to mix with other guests from 8 different countries. Monkey feeding was wonderful. Boat ride on the river was a hoot. Fireflies and blue tears are pure magic. Most of all Charlie an outstanding guide arranging pickup and drop offs, and was entertaining and knowledgeable whilst keeping a diverse group together and on schedule. Loved the experience
Good value for the money. We enjoyed seeing the monkeys and fireflies. The dinner was also very good. We suggest ordering the mud crabs with dinner if you like crabs. We spent way too much time on the boat at the end as the bioluminescent micro-organisms were not easily visible in the muddy water. We also suggest spending less time with the monkeys.
The monkeys are super cute but will climb on you and try to get in your bags and pockets so ve prepared for that. Dinner was incredible, the fireflies and blue tears were amazing. Thanks to Charlie and Magan for an unforgettable trip!
Well-organised and staff (Mac et al) were great. Monkeys and fireflies were fun. ‘Blue tears’ were a little underwhelming even on a dark night, but that’s not necessarily anyone’s fault.
