Sambal Streets Kuala Lumpur Food Tour with 15+ Tastings

Description
With a mix of cultural influences on the nation's cuisine, it's no wonder that Malaysian food is a lip-smackingly complex beast. We'll meet in the old district of Chow Kit and Kampung Baru, one of the last remaining districts that is yet to be developed into glassy high rises. Don't expect other foreigners. Stroll in this local neighbourhood of nightly street eats, sampling a variety of 15+ tastings, carefully curated for their culinary history. The flavours change across the year, but highlights include the fragrant bowls of laksa, hand stretched rotis, nasi lemak with piquant sambal and herbal chicken rendang, charcoal-grilled mackerel, and soothing iced cendol with custard-like durian. We'll end with a fine view of the mighty Petronas Twin Towers. I'm sure you have a lot of your plate, but here's some food for thought. While it's possible to attempt such a culinary marathon yourself, you'd be one sandwich short of a Malaysian picnic not to join me on our moveable food feast.

A great way to get introduced to the various foods of Malaysia and learn a bit of history as well. Our tour guide, Stephen was energetic and fun to eat with.
Firstly, the tour itself is wonderful! You try a variety of dishes including nasi lemak, mango smoothies, Teh Tarik, Mee Goreng Mamak, Bakso, Ikan Bakar, satay, beef rendag, cendol, durian, roti, and more! It combines the history and cultural developments of malaysia in one bowl! It takes you away from the tourist traps to the local spots which you can't find on your own. Secondly, Sean our guide is AN ABSOLUTE GEM! He is patient, knowledgeable and funny! My sister and I enjoyed asking him all the questions, he matched our both food and walking pace, gave us in-depth knowledge of everything and was quite funny! Don't hesitate, get this tour and take it with Sean!
We had a wonderful food tour with Sean, who was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. We got to try a fantastic variety of local dishes while also learning about Kuala Lumpur's history, culture, and daily life, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Sean was engaging, answered all our questions, and made the tour fun from start to finish. It was the perfect way to get a feel for KL, and the tour was excellent value for money with generous food portions and plenty of insights along the way. I couldn't recommend it highly enough.
Sean was a fabulous guide who took us to 18 different food samplings over three and a half hours. He was very knowledgeable about food and ingredients and talked us through some of the produce as we passed through the market. He also gave us lots of fascinating insights into the history of Borneo. The range of dishes was extraordinary and delicious - maybe not the durian but it's definitely something to try! This is a "must-do" tour if you are in Kuala Lumpur. Make sure you ask for Sean - he was outstanding! Ally and Colin Walker and family
We liked the Sambal Streets Food Tour very much. Sean did a great job. We learned a lot about the different food cultures and tastes. My son has allergic reactions with some ingredients and we were able to clarify what to eat and what not prior to the start with the team. Sean also managed this and ordered different dishes whenever possible. Highly recommended!
Genie was an amazing tour guide with great knowledge. A wonderful experience for the whole family. You won't go home hungry
Kiran was excellent. Great food and great guide. Even though we had torrential rain, Kiran looked after us by picking us up in her car
Thank you uncle Sam for the great tour, information and food! It was delicious!
Such an amazing food tour! We learned a lot and our guide could answer al our questions. We came hungry, but at the end we actually wished we came even hungrier. Normally we wouldn’t eat at these markets, so the tour convinced us. Thank you very much Neem!
If you’re visiting Kuala Lumpur and want to experience authentic local cuisine, the Sambal Streets Kuala Lumpur Food Tour with 15+ Tastings is an absolute must! Our guide, Stephen, was fantastic. His passion for Malaysian food, culture, and history was evident from the moment the tour began. He knew all the best local spots and shared fascinating stories about each neighborhood, the origins of the dishes, and how the food is prepared. It felt like exploring the city with a knowledgeable local friend. The food itself was outstanding. There was an incredible variety of dishes, and there was far more food than we could finish. Every stop introduced us to something new, and if you wanted more of a particular dish, there was always plenty available. You definitely won’t leave hungry! What really made the experience special was Stephen’s enthusiasm and energy. He was engaging, funny, and incredibly thorough with his explanations and directions. He happily answered every question we had and made everyone in the group feel welcome and included. The value for the money is exceptional. Not only do you get to sample an amazing variety of authentic Malaysian food, but you also gain a much deeper appreciation for the country’s culture and history. This was one of the highlights of our visit to Kuala Lumpur, and I would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for an authentic, fun, and delicious experience. Be sure to come hungry!
