Mykonos island has two ports. The new one is located in Tourlos district just 3,5 KM from Mykonos town, and the old port which is very close to the town of Mykonos. So, this can be mind confusing but have no worries! We are here to help! The New Port (Tourlos) is the main port of Mykonos and operates exclusively the typical passenger ferries and cruise ships. It is located 3 km north of Mykonos Town. So, whether you are traveling from Athens ports (Piraeus, Rafina, or Lavrio) or another island on a typical passenger ferry, or cruise ship you will arrive at, or depart from the New Mykonos Port (Tourlos). The old port in Mykonos is located in Mykonos town (Chora) and it operated as the main port for ferries till 20 years ago. Recently, it has been used by some fishermen and yachts.
The town is a Cycladic village built amphitheatrically, also known as Chora following the common practice in Greece when the name of the island itself is the same as the name of the principal town. A great number of bars and nightclubs can be found in the capital, proving that the fame of Mykonos to be a party island is not just fame, it is a fact. It has whitewashed cubic houses with wooden colored doors, windows, and balconies, narrow streets forming a labyrinth. Delos is a Greek island and archaeological site in the Aegean Sea's Cyclades archipelago, opposite Mykonos island. The mythological birthplace of Apollo and Artemis was a major religious center and port during the 1st millennium B.C. The island's ruins encompass Doric temples, a synagoque, markets, an amphitheater, houses with mosaics, and the iconic Terrace of the Lions statues. The Archaeological Museum displays statues excavated from the site. The entire island is designated as an archaeological site, to be precise, a UNESCO world heritage site. It’s an ark of history, floating lazily on the waters of the Aegean Sea, just a few miles away from cosmopolitan Mykonos. On your next visit, you will have more time in Mykonos it’s a chance to walk around the revival of the glory of the Greek civilization. It’s the head priest of the Cyclades, the birthplace of the immortals. It’s Delos.
Both a testimony to Mykonos' maritime history and a fully functioning lighthouse, the landmark is a must-see! At the location of "Fanari" which translates to "lantern" in Greek, the scenic coastal road also offers some of the most spectacular views on the island just 7 km from Chora. The Lighthouse of Armenistis (Faros Armenistis) was built in 1891, following the sinking of an English steamship off the island’s coasts. The Lighthouse became a famous attraction because of its imposing presence and its award-winning mechanism, at the Paris Internationa Expo. Today, this mechanism is kept at the Aegean Maritime Museum, located in downtown Mykonos, in the Tria Pigadia area. You can also visit the Armenistis area where the Lighthouse is located and enjoy the unique view of the neighboring island of Tinos.
You will head out to the central & southeast parts of the island, admiring the beautiful snow-white houses having many possibilities to take nice photographs in the early morning when the city is still quiet, passing Ftelia Bay on your way to Ano Mera village where you will have a shortstop and 15 minutes free time to take few shots of the charming village square, bordered with outdoor taverns and coffee shops.
The Byzantine monastery of Panagia Tourliani is located almost in the heart of the island, just 8 km from the capital of Mykonos, Chora. See the historic monastery of Panagia Tourliani, one of the main attractions of the whole island, built in the 15th century. The all-white monastery is located right in front of the main square of the village. The honor in the face of the Virgin Mary is special and is at the heart of the religiousness of the pious Mykonians, as is the case in the rest of the Cycladic islands. The Soul of the Mykonians is located in Panagia Tourliani, the patron saint of this island, and its historical monastery. The historic monastery of Panagia Tourliani, which is the religious creed of Mykonians and the protector of the island, was founded in 1542.
We will continue now our tour in order to experience some of the most famous beaches and beach clubs of Mykonos island. You will have the chance to choose and to visit Platιs Galos, Paraga, Super Paradise, Ellia Beach or Kalo Livadi located on the southern side of Mykonos island. If you choose you can even swim here as it is one of the most beautiful beaches on Mykonos island! Kalafatis Beach is a long sandy strip under a clear blue sky. It is considered one of the largest beaches on the island popular for families with children and with those who enjoy water sports, especially windsurfing. Water skiing, jet skiing, standup paddleboarding, snorkeling, diving, etc. are available for visitors. As it’s away from the more touristy beaches, it remains less developed, but it has a few hotels and restaurants. Kalafatis is equipped with umbrellas and deck chairs which you can rent for a small price. There are hotels and villas of various prices, mini-markets, taverns, and cafes with fresh seafood all around the beach and its outskirts. Kalafatis provides a great opportunity to rest both your body and soul, and combine active leisure with sunbathing.

A very beautiful and refined island, with beautiful beaches and clubs. The premises, the streets, the landscapes are very suggestive........
Beware- I do not recommend this tour. Communication was poor. We sent messages on Viator trying to have a firm pick up and information on our private tour. I had to contact and send a message to the tour company to verify we were confirmed and pick up time and location. I received only one message- we were confirmed. That is it. We tried to call and message via the TripAdvisor app with our guide and did not receive any communication. We did receive a confirmation via Viator (third party vendor for the tour) the night before our tour and the meeting location was different that requested. We tried to contact our tour guide again both by phone and messaging via and again nothing. Morning of the tour we followed the emailed instructions and crossed our fingers. At your time- no guide or representative at the meeting place. We tried to call our guide again and we’re unsuccessful again. We called Viator customer service and they also tried to call our guide and it took them almost 30 minutes to reach them. We were actually on the phone with them to get a refund when our guide finally texted us. He stated he was at our original meeting place. My boyfriend walked back to the original meeting place when we had no guide so we had one of us in each location and he never saw anyone holding a sign with our names. At that point- I was happy to have a guide for our tour and he did pick us up and walked us a few blocks to a square in the city to see a statue and past one of the churches on the itinerary- that was it for our tour of Mykonos. We asked about the windmills and he pointed up the street and said we could do those on our own later?? This was a private guided tour of the city?? Our tour was to be 7 hours, visit 2 beaches and other sites in Mykonos. We were to be able to swim at 2 beaches in the 7 hours plus the tour. We did go to the Monastery. Simply stunning. Make sure you go inside!! Our guide sent us to go in on our own. And just pointed where to go. No explanation, nothing. Nothing about the city we were in. We went to the light house for about 15 minutes. I had to ask to have him stop at a location so we could see the city from a scenic spot. He did accommodate that after I requested. He dropped us off at the beach and sent us down to the beach to make our own accommodations for chairs and umbrellas. By the way- they are 70 euros for the day- no hourly rate so heads up. We had a few drinks and a salad. Beach service was excellent and a fresh water shower to rinse off. Drinks are 13-15 euros each. Salad was good. Enough that we shared for a light lunch. We were supposed to be there for an 1.5 hours. We arrived at 10:30 am and he informed us we would be there until 1:00 pm. Much longer than expected. Water was refreshing and we tried to make the best of a tour that was going terribly wrong. We are seasoned travelers and I have NEVER had such an experience with Trip Advisor or Viator tours like this before. After returning to the van- he stopped at the scenic overlook that I requested and then told us he was taking us back. He did make sure to drop us off back at port near the windmills so we could see them and your the city on our own. That was at least nice. We were never even offered water- a typical standard on a private tour. No warning of the price of the chairs at the beach and very limited history and knowledge of the island. On our way back he informed us he was from Athens and came in the night before for the tour and was returning back to Athens today. Total your time from start to finish- 5 hours for a 7 hour tour. Missing many of the sites listed on the itinerary and never saw the second beach at all or the sites of the city. So utterly disappointing for a private tour that cost over $1100. This isn’t cheap!!! I expected top rated service. I would have done better paying one of the taxi drivers to take us on the tour. Buyer beware- stay away from this tour company and this tour. When you are spending that kind of money for a private guided tour of the city and beach time you expect much better service from a tour company. We would have been better off doing one of the cruise tours offered. Tour company was Athens Greece. Guide was George. I have time stamped photos of our driver walking away at 1:38 pm and am happy to prove it. I have communications with Viator as well.

Great tour, very patient driver/guide. Knowledgeable guy. He did show me how poor I am by taking us to Nammos... Also took us to a fairly affordable place for lunch, by Mynokos standard lol. Please don't tip, they charge high enough. Don't bring this stupid habit over from the States.
This is one of the best tours we have ever had. Our tour guide is professional, knowledgeable, and very kind. He made sure to take us to all the top attractions, was very considerate to our needs, even helped us find a particular shop we wanted to visit in the old town, and made sure we got back to our cruise ship in time. We enjoyed our tour so much and felt lucky we picked this tour. Highly recommend this company.
