Der Udawalawe National Park ist ein Naturschutzgebiet, das fast 120 Quadratkilometer Land mit einer Reihe von geologischen Formationen umfasst. Der am 30. Juni 1972 gegründete Park liegt an der Grenze der Provinzen Sabaragamuwa und Uva in Sri Lanka. Als solches besteht es hauptsächlich aus Ebenen, Wiesen, Wäldern und Sümpfen - während es von hohen Bergen entlang der Nordgrenze begrenzt wird. Ein großer Fluss, der Walawe, und viele seiner Nebenflüsse fließen durch den Park und versorgen die Tierwelt mit reichlich Wasser. Der jährliche Niederschlag im Udawalawe-Nationalpark beträgt etwa 1500 Millimeter, und die Durchschnittstemperatur liegt bei angenehmen 27 bis 28 Grad Celsius. Der Park hat über 94 Pflanzenarten, 21 Fischarten, 12 Amphibienarten, über 30 Reptilienarten, über 180 Vogelarten (33 davon wandern), 43 Säugetierarten und 135 Schmetterlingsarten.

Asanka was the an amazing driver. Very knowledgeable with 20+ year experience and we were able to see so many animals, way more than we ever expected, from cameleons to bathing buffalo, baby elephant, and many colourful birds. He makes sure to be respectful to the animals while parking in the best spot for us to see the animals. Had the time of our lives!

I had a magical adventure on a six hour safari with M.T.A.Kumara (driver) and Harsha (naturalist)! I learned so much from both of them and we saw every bird and animal I had hoped to see. Kumara knew just how to position the jeep so I could get the best photos with no shadows. Harsha is studying Biology at university so he had so much fascinating information about each animal. I could not have asked for a better experience!
We had an amazing safari experience with an excellent guide Asunka! He was knowledgeable, patient, and passionate about wildlife, making the whole trip both exciting and educational. We saw so many animals and felt well looked after the entire time. Even took great photos of us as a family! Highly recommend this safari and guide — a truly memorable experience.

We had booked the full day safari and were on the road for 9 hours with our guide Asnka. It was just great, we saw a lot of animals and Asnka knew a lot of interesting facts and details about their way of life. He was super friendly and accommodating and the day was also our most beautiful here in Sri Lanka thanks to him. An absolute recommendation for nature and animal lovers, adventurers and those who simply want to spend 9 hours in a completely different world.

Not many elephants in Sept and August they are up north in Aug and Sept. Better other times of year. Enjoyed our time with two very friendly baby elephants.

The safari was perfect. We saw lots of elephants up close, lots of birds, monkeys, buffalo, and crocodiles. Shameera was very friendly and made it very enjoyable. I recommend it.

The safari was amazing and though at times it felt busy with jeeps it wasn’t uncomfortable. Our guide on safari was Max, and he was super knowledgeable and was such a calm presence. It felt like we were being really respectful of the animals. We mostly had our engine off just admiring everything from elephants to little green bee eaters. I thought there would be a cash line somewhere on the way so I could get a tip for max but had to go away and get one and come back. Be warned! Kani our transfer driver was the ultimate professional from start to finish. We were so happy with the service. He was really lovely and chatty and gave us lots of interesting facts and history on Sri Lanka and the areas he took us to. He also was a very good driver, the journeys were really smooth which allowed us to sleep on the early morning pickups. We would give Kani 5 stars and would count ourselves very lucky if we were ever to have him as our driver again.

Our guide was fantastic, very observant and we were lucky to see crocodiles, elephants :) and lots of birds. On arrival it was very busy and lots of 4x4s crowded together, mostly empty which was sad as we could have shared vehicles and reduced the traffic. However, once we got properly into the park it was much quieter and barely saw anyone else. Lovely picnic spot by the river and the baby elephant made me happy
Great experience a lot of elephant families! Lahiru helped us also to arrang the cheaper and good transportation to the Safari Park and found lot of elephants and other animals too. The safari trip took 4 hours so we had enough time to admire the animals. No rush. You can observe animals as long as you want. Thank you Lahiru Prasad for the the great memories you gave us.
