Bahntickets von Ella nach Nanuoya (NuwaraEliya)

We purchased train tickets from Ella to Nanu oya via Viator since we couldn't book tickets directly through the Sri Lankan railway website. We were sent an email of confirmation. A day before travel the tour operator sends a message that tickets are not confirmed until 0430 the day of travel. The day of travel the tour operator states they weren't able to get the tickets and had to cancel. For us this experience was highly stressful. (Was anxious about tickets so couldn't really sleep) The tour operator did let us know we could get unreserved tickets however this is not the experience we want. Nanu oya was not our final destination. We already had a car booked there to take us to Kandy and now we're scrambling to find other transportation to take us to Nanu oya. I would not recommend buying through them. This not knowing that tickets are not confirmed when you buy them should have been clearly communicated through their booking page in Viator

Great experience, beautiful scenery. Something you should do once. Windows required cleaning to be able to photograph. Comfortable air conditioned carriage in 1st class.

Train great - 3rd class most room. Don't buy 3rd party train tickets. I bought 2nd class unreserved for 300lkr per ticket at train station 1hr before- easy..then moved to 3rd class as more room. Due to pressure (long story) i bought 2x 3rd party tickets for $66AUD - when i realised I booked wrong direction they wouldn't cancel / any refund. Trust me get to station early, buy your own ticket and hop on.

Tickets delivered by email a couple of weeks before the train departure date. Excellent and clear communication. I recommend taking reserved third class tickets because in first and second class they keep their doors closed. However if you are in second class you can always ask some attendant if they can open the door for you to take videos or photos while you are clinging outside. Of course you have to give a tip, 2 or 3 euros are also fine

Super nice experience. Clear instructions and good seating. The tickets were also neatly displayed in the app and email.

Absolute rip-off The train ride is nice, but we were totally ripped off. Instead of 7000 rupies we paid 70€

You can actually find these tickets for more than 50 per cheaper in the train station only Better not to buy online because they are charging very high price!!!!!

This experience is magical. The train arrived on scheduled time and the ride was pleasant and picturesque. The mini stop at the arches was a super treat. Only issue is that people who are not too tall it’s a bit of a challenge to get back to the train .

You do not travel over the 9 Arches Bridge There is a tourist express train at 0832hrs.  Cost 2500rs per person You need your passport or an identity document to book. We purchased a ticket at 0815hrs for the 0830 train.  It did not leave until 0850hrs. There is another train at 0930hrs which is a regular train that stops at all stops. The best views are on the right side of the train as you look towards the driving cabin. Second class carriage is fine. It looks like the seats at the front of the carriage face backward and the ones, in the back of the carriage face backwards. The trip takes between 2h30m and 3h. Tuktuks/Cars from Nanu Oya to Nawara Eliya costs 1200-1500rs. A Pickme ride in a car from Nawara Eliya to Ella takes about 1h50m and costs about 8500rs.  We would consider taking the return train - a lot more relaxing. Safe travels

After spending £40 for two of us to go into the observation carriage, I was really let down by the staff at the station. They didn't recognise my ticket and only honoured one of the tickets, not two, even though the ticket said 2 adults and the amount I paid. So I had to pay for an additional ticket. The observation carriage did not have A/C as stated, no seats were allocated and generally a let down. The views are spectacular but I thought the whole experience a bit of a let down after our experience at the ticket office.
