Itinerary
Situated at the foot of Signal Hill, on the fringe of the city centre, and formerly known as the Malay Quarter, the Bo-Kaap’s origins date back to the 1760s when numerous “huurhuisjes” (rental houses) were built and leased to slaves. These people were known as Cape Malays, and were brought from Malaysia, Indonesia and the rest of Africa to work in the Cape.
Situated in the oldest working harbour in South Africa, with the iconic Table Mountain as its backdrop, makes the V&A Waterfront is a favourite for local and international visitors.
The street known as St George's Mall, in the Centre of Cape Town, was once a busy central road, but in recent times it was bricked up and blocked off to traffic. This pedestrian walkway through the heart of the city is now lined with fashionable shops and restaurants, while the vast paved area that runs north to south through the city is populated with colorful street vendors and buskers.
Pause for a scenic and informative break in the Company’s Garden, a peaceful oasis in the heart of the city. Your guide will share stories of its origins as a vital supply station for early Dutch settlers, and its evolution into one of Cape Town’s most beloved public spaces. Cycle through the beautifully maintained grounds, admire historic landmarks and statues, and take in views of Table Mountain rising beyond the trees.

Good way to get an introduction to the city of Cape Town, Eon is a great guide, who told us interesting stories and information about the history and culture in a very engaging way. Great for teenagers!! His colleagues Yacin and (?) did a great job keeping us safe in traffic. There was one stop for lunch, which was good. No other food/deink-stops, which I had expected. We cycled about 10km. Bikes were fine.
Thank you for taking the time to share such a thoughtful review! We’re pleased to hear that you enjoyed discovering Cape Town on your guided bicycle tour with Eon - he’ll be so pleased to know his stories and insights brought the city to life. We’ll also pass on your compliments to Yaseen and the team for keeping everyone safe on the ride. We appreciate your note about the food and drink stops. Sometimes our guides include smaller tastings or snack stops along the way, and other times it’s a lunch break, it depends on a few logistical factors on the day. It’s great to know you and the teenagers enjoyed the cycle, and we hope to welcome you back for another tour in the future!
We did the Cape Town culinary bike ride on our first day Cape Town (Friday 5 July). This trip took us via the sea to V&A Waterfront to Cape Boo. We enjoyed when we heard our guide tell Lee. As icing on the cake he let us taste 3 more local delicacies and we also got to test his favorite drink. This trip was ideal both in terms of duration and sights.
Thank you for your wonderful review! We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed the Discover Cape Town Inner City Cycle Tour and that Lee made your experience special with local culinary treats and a special drink. We hope to see you again on another one of our adventures in the future!
