Het observeren van walvissen in hun natuurlijke omgeving geeft een goed gevoel aan de ziel - Knysna de beste plaatsen om dit te doen! Omdat Knysna alleen een operator voor nauwe ontmoetingen toestaat, is ons team gepassioneerd over het demonstreren van ons productieve zeeleven en onze ongelooflijk pittoreske en schilderachtige kustlijn. Elk jaar verlaten zowel de Southern Right als de Bultrug walvissen hun ijzige voedingsgronden van Antarctica en migreren om te paren en kalveren in de warmere wateren van onze Zuid-Afrikaanse kustlijn. Knysna is een van de beste bestemmingen om walvissen te spotten in het land. Knysna is gezegend met het hele jaar door waarnemingen - grote peulen met dolfijnen en regelmatige waarnemingen van Brydes-walvissen. Van juni tot en met november / december kun je in Knysna onze ongelooflijke migrerende walvissen zien, terwijl onze wateren krioelen van Zuid-rechtse en bultruggen en ze onze kustlijn omzeilen terwijl ze hun weg naar de tropen maken.

Highly disappointing to be advised via WhatsApp just one hour before the trip that it would be cancelled as nobody else has booked for the midday trip. Had we been given more notice we could have brought other guests from our accom, arranged an alternative time or tour for what was to be one of the highlights of our SA trip. Pretty amateur approach.
Dear valued client, We apologize for the late notice and any inconvenience caused, which led to your disappointment. As previously explained, we received numerous enquiries prior to contacting you, however, all other clients opted for the afternoon timeslot, rather than the midday slot you were booked in. Our policy is to avoid interfering with existing bookings unless it becomes clear that the timeslot will not be filled, as we frequently receive last-minute bookings and walk-ins. We operate with a minimum requirement of 4 passengers, and unfortunately, this threshold was not met for your booked timeslot. We always recommend that clients book their tours and charters for the first day and timeslot available, allowing us to reschedule in the event of unfavorable weather conditions or unmet minimums. Unfortunately, this was not possible in your case. However, a full refund has been processed. Please note that, due to the nature of our tours, we cannot guarantee departures, as they are subject to weather, sea conditions, and other external factors.
Very nice staff, have seen whales, Define and seals. The life jackets are there. I would recommend putting on a jacket as it can get fresh (and a little wet depending on the swell)

We saw a beautiful whale, two different types of dolphins, seals and lovely sights. The team was lovely.

The tour was a highlight of our stay. The team is professional, friendly and superbly organised – you always feel safe and in good hands. Best of all: We actually saw whales because the crew remained incredibly persistent and engaged. Their patience and dedication were absolutely worth it and made the trip unforgettable. The tour started as planned. When we left the bay we already saw the very high waves. After a good 10 minutes the skipper stopped the boat and said it was already very extreme conditions and we would probably not see any whales. For this reason, he would advise termination. The group agreed and so it went back. Once on land we learned that we can arrange a new appointment or get a part refunded. Few expected that.

Very big cinema, what you experience and see on the sea. The passage of the Heads alone is worth the experience and Johannes alone makes the boat tour on the coast a very big experience. Great team, very nice and fair. Unfortunately we didn't see whales, but a huge dolphin school (almost in the boat) and many seals accompanied us for a long time. The permanent view of the coast is fantastic. Travel tablet for vulnerable is recommended. We were outside in calm seas, but the sight from land is deceptive. Many thanks to the entire team. Great!

This trip exceeded our expectations. Friendly , professional staff from the get go. The onboard tour guide was knowledgeable & informative & towards the end of our time, when we were yet to spot Whales(although plenty of Dolphins, birds & a sea Lion) & were inbound to shore, immediately turned the boat round & raced to where a radio communication had informed a sighting. We were able to witness a close encounter with a humpback & her calf. We also went through caves & cliffs. Thoroughly enjoyed our morning. Thank You.

This was a colossal waste of time and money. The staff were all nice and professional, the security briefing was reasonable. It was explained that in nature, there can be no prediction if we will see anything BUT it was emphasised that tours will only go out when the spotters have previously seen something. So we went out and got driven around for two hours through wind and rain, and all we got to see was a dead seal and three other seals in a different spot, otherwise nothing. I assume they knew exactly that that was nothing to see out there, anyway they went straight into the rainstorm…

When deciding to proceed with the tour, our primary considerations are safety, passenger comfort, and visibility. We prioritize the safety of our passengers and crew, followed by ensuring a comfortable experience on board. Our spotters play a crucial role in assisting our boat in locating whales, and we rely on them to guide us to potential sightings. It appears that there may have been a misunderstanding about the conditions required for the tour to proceed, and we think it's possible that you may have assumed that our confirmation of suitable visibility for our spotter meant that whales had been spotted prior to departure. We'd like to clarify that this is not the case - our tour does not require confirmed whale sightings to proceed. We operate in the whales' natural environment, and while we do our best to locate them, sightings can never be guaranteed. In fact, during our briefing, we explicitly emphasize that we have no influence or control over the marine life, particularly whales. It also bears mentioning that just because we had whales in the morning does not mean that our afternoon tours are guaranteed to have sightings - it is the luck of the draw! Whale watching, much like a Big 5 safari in the Kruger, is an unpredictable adventure. The thrill of the experience lies in the uncertainty and the opportunity to witness these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. We're not able to guarantee sightings or outcomes, and that's what makes it exciting. It's worth noting that during whale season, which typically runs from June to November, whales are generally present in the waters where we operate. However, they spend the majority of their time below the surface, which, I may add, makes whale watching even harder than a Big 5 safari in the Kruger, where you and most of the animals are all on the same level. We can't control how often they surface or when they'll breach. I'd also like to add that some assume that we use devices such as sonar or radar, but that is not the case! This is all purely by eye, relying on the expertise of our spotters, crew, and skippers, and it's also why we encourage passengers to assist! Before proceeding with the tour, our crew thoroughly discussed the expected ocean conditions with the team, and we communicated to all passengers that there would be a swell and wind. We wanted to ensure that everyone was aware of what to expect during the tour. Unfortunately, the weather changed more rapidly than anticipated, with the rain arriving earlier than forecasted. Unfortunately, your tour was one of only nine tours to this date since June 1st, 2025, that did not successfully find whales. While we're disappointed in this outcome, we want to assure you that this is not uncommon. No whale watching company can claim a perfect streak of sightings through the season. We'd like to note that if the weather hadn't changed so dramatically, which was also unpredicted, we would have stayed out longer to try and locate whales, as we've done on previous occasions. However, the safety of our passengers and crew is our top priority, and we made the decision to return to shore when conditions became unfavorable. A great experience to see whales in their natural habitat- although rather choppy waters we got to enjoy watching humpback whales fin & tail slapping but best of all breaching- we highly recommend !

Lovely boat and really committed staff - we saw humpback whales with calves. Obviously no-one can guarantee sightings but we couldn’t have done much better!
