Tram was an amazing local tour guide who is fluent in Chinese and English. She curated the tour to my interests and tastes, and was intent on showing me new foods I haven’t tried before. I loved every stop and enjoyed the food so much! Highly recommend this morning food tour!
Tham was an amazing guide and was so knowledgeable about the food, culture, and history of Penang. This tour was a great way to end our trip and really gave insight into the local life. A must do!
Firstly we booked this tour through Viator which said there were no reviews in Viator but there were 20 reviews in Trip Advisor. Right here in Trip Advisor I did not find a single review and mine is the first ! This is something I did not check earlier ( my mistake). Back to business, this tour lasts about 3.5 to 4 hours and covers about 5-6 stops not very far from each other. Of course we got to taste a number of dishes from local eateries that we normally would not have visited by ourselves. So what is the problem ? The problem is that our guide Ashlin did not speak enough about local culture, history, culinary links etc. At the end of the tour our bellies were full but we did not have the satisfaction of learning something. Having done so many food tours in different countries I must say that for a food tour to be successful, the guide needs to deliver a combination of history, culture, family habits and interesting stories. This is where this tour falls flat on its face.
