Tijdens het Britse koloniale tijdperk bloeide de Chinese gemeenschap in Penang op, praktiseerde hun geloof met toewijding en bouwde vele grote tempels – sommigen zeiden dat ze die in China konden evenaren, zo niet overtreffen. Een van de meest bekende is Kek Lok Si, vaak beschreven als het grootste boeddhistische tempelcomplex in Zuidoost-Azië, dat lijkt op een spiritueel themapark. Gebouwd in 1985, kunnen bezoekers leren over boeddhisme, taoïsme en confucianisme terwijl ze de prachtig vervaardigde pagodes, levendige lantaarns, ingewikkelde beelden en rustige tuinen verkennen. Old George Town staat op de Werelderfgoedlijst van UNESCO en staat bekend om zijn unieke mix van koloniale architectuur, multicultureel erfgoed en levendige straatkunst. Opgericht in 1786, weerspiegelt de stad eeuwen van diverse invloeden, waaronder Maleis, Chinees, Indiaas en Europees, waardoor het een levend museum van geschiedenis en cultuur is. Hier kunt u de prachtige koloniale gebouwen bekijken en fotograferen, zoals het stadhuis, het stadhuis, het War Cenotaph Memorial, Fort Cornwallis, de Jubilee Clock Tower en het Senaatsgebouw, allemaal onder arbeidsomstandigheden.

Rijd rond Old George Town om een foto of twee van magische straatkunsten gemaakt door Ernest te zien en te maken, zoals "Kinderen op de fiets", "Jongen op de motorfiets", "Jongen met huisdier Dinosaurus" en "Klimmuur" en ander werk van kunstenaars zoals "Welkom Katten", "Reikwijdte", "Kinderen op Schommel" en "Kinderen en Basketbal".
Drukke, schilderachtige bestemming met een traditioneel dorp van rustieke huizen op palen boven het water. Wandel over de planken loopbrug om te zien hoe de lokale bevolking hun dagelijks leven op de steiger doet, maak mooie foto's van het uitzicht op de haven, de iconische Penang Ferry en de Penang Bridge en koop een snuisterij of twee of slurp aan een koel ijsdrankje in deze warme en charmante enclave.

A full day with varied activities to keep everyone interested. Max was a wonderful guide, we had pretty bad weather but he changed the activities seamlessly to suit our group. Max was unbelievably knowledgeable about the places we visited and both history and current life in Penang. He was able to keep all members of our group interested throughout. We were very impressed with the whole day, we loved the food from the hawker centre and there were choices to please the fussiest of children. Thank you Max for a wonderful day.

Having limited time in Penang, I booked a private tour. My driver/guide, Mr. Eng Choon Wooi, provided comfortable transportation and interesting commentary at my chosen destinations, the Kuan Yin temple and Penang Hill. He also found a great local vegan lunch spot, and we had time after that to see the Peranakan museum. I relaxed while Eng waited in line to buy tickets or went to fetch the car. He knew the best routes to take and the best photo spots, and answered my questions about life in Penang. I'm glad I booked this tour.

Great private tour. I would recommend doing this private tour on day 1 and then you can explore Penang on your own or do other activities like food tour. This private tour gives you opportunity to explore the town in your own pace. Guide was amazing and very knowledgeable. I did this tour on 6/16/2026.
