Het is het op twee na grootste gebouw in Teotihuacan, een oude Meso-Amerikaanse stad waarvan de ruïnes zich in Mexico bevinden. Het gebouw bestaat uit zeven lichamen van talud-tablero en een deel van de westelijke gevel werd aan het begin van de 3e eeuw versierd met sculpturen die de Gevederde Slang vertegenwoordigen, een van de oudste en belangrijkste goden van de Meso-Amerikaanse volkeren, later Quetzalcoatl genoemd.
De Piramide van de Zon werd voornamelijk gebruikt voor ceremoniële en religieuze doeleinden. Er wordt aangenomen dat het werd gebruikt om rituelen uit te voeren met betrekking tot de zon, regen en vruchtbaarheid, omdat deze elementen fundamenteel waren voor het wereldbeeld van de Teotihuacan-cultuur. Bovendien was het door de ligging in het centrum van de stad en de imposante aanwezigheid een centraal punt voor de gemeenschap, waar belangrijke ceremonies en evenementen werden gehouden. Het is een van de meest emblematische structuren van de precolumbiaanse beschaving in Meso-Amerika. Deze piramide is de grootste in Teotihuacan en een van de grootste in Meso-Amerika, wat het belang van deze beschaving in die tijd weerspiegelt.
De piramide van de maan markeert de noordelijke grens van de Causeway of the Dead, die het een zeer symbolische betekenis geeft, en is het meest opvallende element van een van de meest harmonieuze stedelijke ruimtes in de stad, de zogenaamde Plaza de la Luna. Deze grote ruimte, die wordt omringd door 13 funderingen met typische Teotihuacan architectonische kenmerken en die ooit volledig werden beschilderd, was een onverslaanbaar decor voor openbare rituelen. Aan de voet van de piramide bevindt zich structuur A, omlijst door twee fundamenten, waarin zich negen altaren bevinden die op de muren zijn aangebracht plus één in het midden, die de kardinale en interkardinale richtingen en het centrum van het universum symboliseren.
Een ruimte waar we praten over onderwerpen die te maken hebben met obsidiaanwerk en de grootsheid, het aanbod en de diversificatie van de Teotihuacan Valley. Stukken handgemaakt in de Teotihuacan Valley, gemaakt door ambachtslieden en ontworpen met grote professionaliteit en zorg. Op dit punt zult u in staat zijn om een brede uitleg van een van de meest representatieve en originele planten van Mexico die de mens ten goede komen, "de maguey", die een van de meest gebruikte planten is sinds de oude Meso-Amerikanen. Sommige bedwelmende dranken zoals pulque of aguamiel worden ervan verkregen. Opgemerkt moet worden dat het gebruik van deze plant teruggaat tot pre-Spaanse tijden. Sindsdien was het niet alleen beroemd om de drankjes die ervan werden geproduceerd, maar ook om zijn vele geneeskrachtige eigenschappen.
Hier genieten we van een buffetmaaltijd, begeleid door de pre-Spaanse dansshow of mariachi muziek. In deze plaats kunt u genieten van de heerlijke Mexicaanse keuken, dit buffet wordt door ons gedekt, maar u moet er rekening mee houden dat de drankjes en de fooi van ITer niet zijn gedekt, dus overweeg het alstublieft.

Tomás made this one of the best tour experiences we've ever had. The tour company was very responsive to our questions before the trip, which set a great tone from the start. He picked us up punctually at 7am and reached out the night before to make sure we were prepared — he even brought an umbrella for my fair-skinned daughter, who came home without a single sunburn. What really set him apart was his flexibility. When I decided mid-tour to walk the Avenue of the Dead rather than drive to the Sun Pyramid, he rolled with it completely without making us feel rushed or like we were disrupting anything. Despite that, he still made sure we saw everything the tour had to offer. His knowledge of the site was impressive and he kept sharing context and history throughout the day. The day ran very long — entirely due to our own pace — and he stayed professional and warm the entire time through a very late return drive. Couldn't recommend him more highly.

My wife and I were picked up by our driver about two hours away from our excursion. The ride was smooth and entertaining to talk to our driver. He offered to stop to get breakfast if needed. Once at the excursion we met our tour guide who was one of the excavators on site. He was very knowledgeable and spoke both English and Spanish very well. We were really happy with our tour. Definitely wear comfortable clothes, shoes and a hat. Not many places to find shade.

What a spectacular experience this was! We couldn’t have asked for better hosts than Josué and Monserrat. This was a very special journey exploring the history and culture of the wonder that is Teotihuacan. Our guides made it exceed our expectations. Everything was smooth and comfortable from the very first moment. Thanks to our new friends in Monserrat and Josué, we left Teotihuacan with greater knowledge and appreciation for the beauty of this magical place. Also, we want to say that, from our perspective, this tour offered excellent value from private transportation to excellent food and, of course, the unforgettable tour — all included in the price. My trip to see the Theotihuacan archeological site and pyramids was terrific! Our driver was excellent, very safe and very friendly. He offered educational videos to watch regarding Mexican culture and history. Our tour guide at Theotihuacan was also fantastic. He was very friendly and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend this experience. Be advised it’s roughly 2.5 hour drive each way to and from Queretaro. Bring a wide brim hat and lots of water.

The driver went out of his way to help me. Gave us information on the way down. The guide was very knowledgeable and the length of time at the pyramids was just right. Lunch was very nice. A long day but well worth it.

I thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Be advised that it is a 2.5 hour car ride both ways to and from. Our driver was very good, very safe and super friendly too. Our tour guide Alberto was excellent, and very knowledgeable. He works at the archeological site so he knows of what he speaks. The gift shop and restaurant stops on the way home are very enjoyable. Well worth it for me. Highly recommend.

We had an amazing time on this tour. The driver, Josué was on time, friendly and spoke great English. He was accommodating and clear the whole tour. The site was absolutely amazing and unforgettable. And it was made even better by our guide, Tomás. He was very knowledgeable, friendly, engaging and fun. He spoke very clear English and brought additional illustrations of the site, historical photos and more that added such rich context to the history of the site. We felt very lucky to have him as our guide. The only downside to this part of the tour was that once it was over, we didn’t have any time to explore the site on our own. We had to move on to the next portion of the tour. We could have spent much more time exploring and contemplating the history of the site on our own. However the next section of the tour; the obsidian workshop was fantastic. We received a private demonstration of how the crafts are made, got samples of some delicious tequila and had access to a spectacular shop with lots of beautiful crafts. We were glad that we were able to pick up a couple of souvenirs from the smaller stands while we were at the site to support them too, but again we had very little time to actually browse there. This is understandable given the time it takes to get to and from Queretaro and to lunch. Finally the buffet lunch was good, there was plenty of food and we only had to pay for drinks and the waiters tip. Josué got us back safely at about 5pm. Overall excellent tour and we would absolutely recommend it to anyone, especially those who love ancient history.
