Saint Sophia "Haghia Sophia" in het Grieks betekent "goddelijke wijsheid", is een buitengewone architecturale prestatie uit de 6e eeuw. Gebouwd door Anthémios de Tralles en Isodore de Millet, werd het ingehuldigd door Justinien en zijn vrouw Théodora (537). Dit Byzantijnse meesterwerk heeft prachtige mozaïeken met een gouden achtergrond en gekleurd marmer. Justinianus voor de bouw van de koepel had stenen van de aarde van Rhodos zo licht besteld dat twaalf van hen niet meer dan een gewone steen wogen, ze droegen de volgende inscriptie: "Het is God die gegrond, God zal hem helpen. " De Ottomanen hadden het in een moskee veranderd, toen werd het in 1935 een museum.
De Blauwe Moskee (1609-1616) is een van de beroemdste moskeeën ter wereld met zes minaretten, het dankt zijn naam aan de keramische tegels (ongeveer 20.000) uit Iznik (Nicea), overwegend blauw die langs de binnenmuren lopen. .
Het paleis van TOPKAPI heeft 4 verschillende binnenplaatsen, het vestigde zich op 70ha vóór de aanleg van het spoorwegnet en was de residentie van de sultans tot de 19e eeuw. Gedurende 4 eeuwen was het het administratieve centrum van het Ottomaanse rijk. Het paleis huisvestte het hoofdkwartier van DIVAN, het belangrijkste orgaan van macht. De enorme keuken voedde tussen de 4 en 5000 mensen per dag. Tegenwoordig is er in de keuken een verzameling Chinees en Japans porselein. Zijn beroemde schat, met de 86-karaats "kasikçi" diamant, de gouden kroonluchters versierd met diamanten, de tronen van de sultan zijn getuigen van de rijke geschiedenis van het rijk. Op de 3e binnenplaats van het paleis bevindt zich de relikwieën van de profeet Mohammed, het is een heilige plaats voor moslims. De kiosken op de 4e binnenplaats maken deze architecturale schoonheid van het paleis compleet. Op deze terrassen heb je een adembenemend uitzicht op de Gouden Hoorn en de Bosporus.
Een waterreservoir uit de zesde eeuw met 336 kolommen en een volume van 90.000 m³.

Our week in Istanbul would not have been so rich in discoveries without Mustafa's company. This guide is passionate and makes the tours very interesting and enjoyable. Back from SRI LANKA and MALDIVES we stopped for 3 nights and 2 days in Istamboul. We were 4 and we spent these 2 days on the old town with Mustapha. Its strengths: punctuality, availability, listening to its customers, adapting to the pace of customers, speaking perfect French and very in-depth knowledge of the history and culture of its country. Besides, in the big bazaar, he avoided tourist routes to take us to the "local part" and show us "real life". If you can, for the cruise on the Bosphorus I recommend the option "private boat" which in addition to the longer duration (+/- 1 hour) also allows to take full advantage of the knowledge of Mustapha. This guide has passionate us to the point that we will go again to Istamboul and certainly then to Cappadocia and we will use his services at that time. I recommend you 200%!!!
