Santa Maria Island heeft veel meer te zien dan wat de gewone uitkijkpunten te bieden hebben - sommige details krijg je alleen te zien als je ervoor kiest om off-road te gaan. Door je aan te melden voor onze Jeepsafari, kun je de belangrijkste bezienswaardigheden van het eiland vanuit een heel ander gezichtspunt bezoeken. Begin bij Forte São Brás en leer over het historische belang ervan bij de verdediging van het eiland;
Bezoek op Anjos de getijdenpoelen en de eerste kerk van de Azoren. Lees ook meer over de gedenkwaardige tussenstop van Cristopher Columbus op het eiland.
Barreiro da Faneca, een bekende geosite, zal zeker adembenemend zijn met zijn landschap dat op Mars lijkt
Nog steeds in het noorden van het eiland, werp een blik op Ilhéu das Lagoinhas en stop bij de Santa Bárbara-parochie waar de inwoners trots zijn op het behoud van de unieke architectuur van Santa Maria
Op weg naar São Lourenço, de mooiste baai van de Azoren, bezoek je een andere gedenkwaardige geosite van het eiland - een verlaten steengroeve waarvan de intense ontginning in het verleden leidde tot een verbazingwekkend landschap - Poço da Pedreira.

Santo Espírito is de volgende, de parochie die eigenaar is van het grootste voorbeeld van de barokstijl van de Azoren: de opmerkelijke kerk;
Beneden gaan we naar Maia, een andere bekende baai van het eiland vanwege zijn wijngaardlandschap en Cascata do Aveiro, de op een na hoogste waterval van Portugal;
Nu goed aan de zuidkust, rust een andere beroemde geosite voor contemplatie - Ribeira do Maloás. De pilaarachtige structuren zijn het resultaat van horizontale contractie die optrad toen de lava afkoelde. Vergelijkbaar met Giant's Causeway in Ierland, maar koeler.
Naast Pico Alto, het hoogste punt van het eiland waar je een uitzicht van 360º kunt krijgen en kunt genieten van alles wat je tot nu toe hebt gezien (als de weersomstandigheden het toelaten!).
Sluit de tour af op Praia Formosa, het populairste zandstrand van de Azoren en gastheer van het oudste ononderbroken muziekfestival in Portugal, Festival Maré de Agosto sinds 1984.

Exceptional! Henry was a spectacular guide, we loved it. We were two friends traveling and it was a whole day to know the best corners of the island. All very nice, highly recommend!!

It was very excellent, guide is very friendly and showed the fantastic places, a pity I wasn't at Pico Alto because it was very fog and rain. But it was very fantastic. I really loved it. Congratulations to the professional guide.

The tour was awesome! Is absolutely recommended if you want something special. The jeep takes you safely across the island and the guide has all the information. Lunch was simple but just right. In the end, there are even places that can be reached very easily to explore on your own the next day. Thank you for this experience:)

This was a wonderful back road view of the entire island, filled with facts about the history, the culture, the flora, and the natural landscape. The home made picnic of traditional food was an extra treat.

Great day. Henrique is a great tour guide and driver. He took us to every main spot on the Island and covered a lot a back roads. He is very knowledgeable about the history, natural items (plants and rocks) and how the Island came to be. We had a very enjoyable picnic lunch he provided and a lot of good conversation and great information. Highly recommend. If 10/10 is a good recommendation, I would say he earned a 15/10. He loves what he does and is excellent at it.
