Ontmasker de schoonheid en cultuur van het hedendaagse Costa Ricaanse leven tijdens deze San Jose wandeltocht. Je komt van dichtbij en persoonlijk, door middel van lokale gerechten, geschiedenis, cultuur zelfs de kruidengeneesmiddelen van de volksgeneeskunde. Geniet van exotisch fruit op de Borbonmarkt. We maken een wandeling door de levendige Centrale Markt, proeven lokaal ijs, Lolo Mora is meer dan 100 jaar oud. Het zien van diverse bezienswaardigheden, de kathedraal, het Nationaal Theater, de prachtige Central en Morazan parken zal u helpen om het land en zijn rijke geschiedenis te leren kennen en van deze ervaring, heb je een ander gevoel smaak om meer in harmonie met San Jose. Voor het einde bezoekt u Mr. Sloth Coffee Shop waar u gastronomische koffie en chocolade vindt, op deze speciale plek Cafe Chorreado proeft en leert bereiden, geniet van koffieproeverijen, picadill, tamal gekookt door lokale families en gewikkeld in een bananenblad, maak uw eigen bakbanaanempanadas met kaas, probeer onze beroemde Agua de Sapo maken met gember, suikerriet en citroen.

We beginnen bij het Monumento de los Presentes, waar we de tour inleiden door te bespreken hoe de stad en haar cultuur vele veranderingen hebben doorstaan. Het monument zelf personifieert de typische inwoners van de stad, die het risico lopen te verdwijnen door modernisering. Deze figuren staan standvastig, serieus en vertegenwoordigen een stille rebellie tegen de ingrijpende veranderingen om hen heen, wat symbool staat voor veerkracht en het behoud van identiteit in het aangezicht van transformatie.
--- We bezoeken de Borbón-markt, ook wel bekend als de markt van de Carretas, waar lokale families al meer dan vier generaties lang met trots verse groenten en fruit verkopen. Deze bruisende markt is een hoeksteen van de gemeenschap en biedt een kijkje in het dagelijkse leven van verkopers die hun kennis en tradities door de jaren heen hebben doorgegeven. Terwijl we de markt verkennen, word je ondergedompeld in de levendige kleuren, geuren en smaken van de markt, terwijl je leert over de rijke geschiedenis en de essentiële rol die de markt speelt bij het in stand houden van de stad met verse, lokale producten. Deze markt fungeert als zowel een cultureel als agrarisch knooppunt en verbindt de mensen van de stad met de overvloedige oogsten van de regio.
We bezoeken de Centrale Markt, opgericht in 1880, waar u de kans krijgt om meer te leren over de basis van de Costa Ricaanse landbouw en dagelijkse cultuur. Deze historische markt is een levendig centrum van het lokale leven en biedt een kijkje in de tradities en praktijken die de Costa Ricaanse keuken generaties lang hebben gevormd. Terwijl we de markt verkennen, ontdekt u de essentiële ingrediënten, ontmoet u lokale verkopers en krijgt u inzicht in de landbouwpraktijken die de regio in stand houden. Het is een perfecte introductie tot het rijke culturele tapijt dat Costa Rica uniek maakt.
We bezoeken de historische kathedraal van San José, waarvan de oorsprong teruggaat tot 1788. Deze kathedraal was onderdeel van een groots ontwerp waarbij vijf kerken werden gebouwd die een kruis vormden, een symbool van diepe religieuze betekenis. De kathedraal, gebouwd in Romaanse stijl, heeft prachtige architectonische details en een serene sfeer. Onder de fundering liggen catacomben, die een laag mysterie en geschiedenis toevoegen aan deze heilige ruimte. Terwijl we op verkenning gaan, leert u over het belang van de kerk in de religieuze en culturele ontwikkeling van Costa Rica, evenals de verhalen die in de muren verborgen liggen.
Inclusief een bezoek aan de inkomhal van het Nationale Theater van Costa Rica. In het hart van San Jose blijft het Nationale Theater (Teatro Nacional) een van de populairste toeristische attracties van de hoofdstad.” Het sierlijke neoklassieke theater wordt beschouwd als het mooiste historische gebouw in San Jose en staat bekend om zijn prachtige interieur versierd met weelderige meubels en prachtige muurschilderingen.
We bezoeken Mr. Sloth Coffee Shop en gaan naar de tweede verdieping, waar u kunt genieten van een huisgemaakte maaltijd met tamales gemaakt volgens oude koloniale recepten, liefdevol bereid door een lokale familie. U krijgt ook de kans om unieke gerechten te proeven, zoals bananenceviche, Guanacastecan ceviche of pejibaye ceviche - authentieke pre-Spaanse gerechten. De ervaring gaat verder met een praktische kookles, waarin u leert hoe u ambachtelijke chocolade-empanadas maakt, terwijl u geniet van speciale koffie gebrouwen in traditionele vandolas.

Our guide, Oscar, was enthusiastic and knowledgeable! The tour gives you a great lesson on history and foods of Costa Rica. Visiting the local markets and tasting local fruits was fun and the capstone was going to Sloth Coffee Shop were we made our own empanadas and had amazing coffee with the owner, Eric, who also is very knowledgeable of Costa Rica. He brewed the coffee in an amazing pour over ceramic pot from a neighboring town. We liked it so much that we travelled there today to buy one to take home. We can’t wait to enjoy our Costa Rican coffee in our beautiful ceramic pot when we get back home.

This was one of the best tours I have taken. It packed in a ton of interesting facts and meaningful experiences. Oscar was a fantastic guide who clearly loves what he does and wants to be sure you are having a good experience. He was knowledgeable, kind, and very communicative. Ending with Eddie at Mr Sloths coffee was also special. The coffee we sampled with the empanadas we each made was top notch. This is a very reasonably priced tour for everything packed into it. Wear comfortable shoes it is a lot of walking. Our tour guide Marcelo was funny and very knowledgeable. Also offered to wait if anyone wanted to check out something that interested them on the tour.

A nice tour; not too long or too short. Just right. Our tour guide Marcel was very upbeat and knowledgeable. He shared a lot of interesting information about food and also the history of San Jose and Costa Rica. We tasted ice cream, fruits, tamales, frog juice, and we made our own sweet empanadas. Of course the tour ended with a coffee tasting. A nice introduction to downtown San Jose and its tasty foods.

We are a family of five, my teens were reluctant to do this activity but in the end, they all really enjoyed it and the parents just as much!

Relaxed way to spend a morning in San Jose. Nice to see the markets and a couple of key sights. Our guide was lovely and very informative. I was expecting to be trying street food along the way, however this was not the case and the 'bites' happened at the tour operator's cafe at the end. Therefore, I would say the advice to not eat beforehand is not a good idea, as you don't actually eat anything except some fruit for the first 2/2.5hrs! Overall though an enjoyable experience for a good price.

Great tour. I enjoyed being in the main downtown and seeing the markets. The tasting of the fruits and local food was delicious. I would have love a bit more history but thats just me. The guide was very informative. The coffee store was amazing and the coffee specialist was a perfectionist when it came to coffee. Everyone was very friendly
