Bezoek Alley of Letters dat is gebouwd ter ere van de 1600e verjaardag van de creatie van het Armeense alfabet. Dit monument is niet alleen uniek in Armenië, maar overal ter wereld. De volgende is het meer Kari op 3250m hoogte op de hellingen van de berg Aragats, het hoogste punt van Armenië (4095 m). Zie Amberd, een fort op de zuidelijke helling van de berg Aragats, gesticht in de 7e eeuw.

De hoogste top van de Republiek Armenië is de berg Aragats (4090 m). Deze reus met vier pieken is de meest favoriete berg van klimmers. Op weg naar de zuidelijke piek is de beste stop bij Lake Kari (vertaald als stenen meer), dat op een hoogte van 3250 m ligt. Bovenaan opent zich het meest aantrekkelijke tafereel : het silhouet van groene valleien van de ene kant, de eeuwige sneeuw- en zilvermeren van andere kanten en de Bijbelse berg Ararat ver in de mist van Ararat Valley.
Armeens Alfabet Monument is gelegen in het dorp Artashavan, aan de oostkant onderaan de berg Aragats. Het werd opgericht in 2005 ter gelegenheid van de 1600e verjaardag van de oprichting van het Armeense alfabet door het ontwerp van de beroemde Armeense architect Jim Torosyan. Het monument is een interessante demonstratie van de steenhouwerijen van 39 Armeense letters. Het Armeense alfabet wordt sinds het jaar 405 of 406 gebruikt om de Armeense taal te schrijven en wordt nog steeds gebruikt om de Armeense taal in geschreven vorm te presenteren. Het werd bedacht door Sint Mesrop Masjtots, een Armeense taalkundige en kerkelijk Leider, om de Bijbel toegankelijk te maken voor Armeniërs en het christendom te verspreiden. Oorspronkelijk bevatte het 36 letters en was het voltooid in de middeleeuwen.
De belangrijkste architectonische kenmerken van de middeleeuwse vestingbouw hebben hun weerspiegeling gevonden in deze vesting. Amberd is gebouwd op een natuurlijk goed verdedigde kaap en heeft lange tijd gediend als een belangrijk militair fort. Naast dit seculiere bouwwerk staat een kerk, gebouwd in 1026 door de hertog Vahram Pahlavuni.

This was an amazing tour. Mike and Karen were great to hangout and very very knowledgeable of Armenian culture from it's inception to present day. We learned about tons of fascinating topics from literature, to religion and within context and in a very fluid and well crafted manner. Highly recommend taking the lunch option at Chir's house. Armenians will never let you starve don't worry about it. The food was all freshly cooked with vegetables from the garden at Chir's house where they also make their own honey and dried fruit. This was our first tour in Armenia and first time and this was perfect for us. Great if you don't want to walk much but see beautiful places. Nothing too hard to reach or with challenging hikes even though most of the tour is in mountains so I'd say this is a level for seniors as well. Highly recommend Karlen and Mike, I want to book them again for the next day but they were taken. Keep up the good work Karlen and Mike :D

The Alphabet park and fortress were nice. What made the day was the guide, Alisa. She was very informative and engaging on topics beyonf the ones we saw. The lake was a total waste of time. Take a sweater. It was chilly up there. I think it was very overpriced for what we got.
