Deze privétour behandelt de belangrijkste operaties en doelstellingen van de Amerikaanse troepen op D-Day. Een begeleide tour langs de D-Day stranden in Normandië wordt iets veel krachtigers dan alleen het bezoeken van historische bezienswaardigheden onder leiding van een lokale Expert Gids. Wat het echt uniek maakt is de menselijke diepgang die ze in het landschap brengen. In plaats van gewoon op Omaha Beach of Utah Beach te staan en data en troepenaantallen te horen, verbindt je Gids je met de individuele verhalen achter de gebeurtenissen - jonge soldaten, onmogelijke beslissingen, momenten van moed en angst. Je Gids kent niet alleen de geschiedenis, maar ook het land. Ze leggen uit hoe het terrein de strijd op plaatsen als Pointe du Hoc heeft gevormd en hoe dorpen en burgers de invasie hebben ervaren. De stranden van Omaha waren een echte val voor de troepen van de 1e en 29e Infanteriedivisie. We zullen een of twee stops maken op Omaha Beach en de landingen van de Amerikaanse troepen op 6 juni 1944 begrijpen.
De begraafplaats, aan de noordkant van de halve mijl toegangsweg, beslaat 172,5 hectare en bevat de graven van meer dan 9.380 van onze militaire doden, van wie de meesten hun leven verloren in de D-Day landingen en daaropvolgende operaties. Op de muren van de vermisten, in een halfronde tuin aan de oostkant van het monument, staan 1.557 namen.
Het Pointe du Hoc Ranger-monument uit de Tweede Wereldoorlog bevindt zich op een klif acht mijl ten westen van de Amerikaanse begraafplaats van Normandië, met uitzicht op het strand van Omaha, Frankrijk. Het werd opgericht door de Fransen om elementen van het Amerikaanse Second Ranger Battalion te eren onder het commando van kolonel James E. Rudder. Tijdens de Amerikaanse aanval op de stranden van Omaha en Utah op 6 juni 1944, schaalden deze Rangers van het Amerikaanse leger de 100-voet kliffen af en grepen de Duitse artilleriestukken die op de Amerikaanse landingstroepen op de stranden van Omaha en Utah hadden kunnen schieten. Tegen hoge kosten van het leven verdedigden ze met succes tegen bepaalde Duitse tegenaanvallen.
De meest westelijke landingssector op D-Day, Utah Beach, ligt op het schiereiland Cotentin, ook bekend als het schiereiland Cherbourg, en het was in feite om de geallieerde commandanten van operatie Overlord, Eisenhower, te helpen de vitale haven van Cherbourg te veroveren. en Montgomery besloten dat dit verdere Landingsstrand nodig was. We zullen een stop maken om dit vaak ingetogen strand te begrijpen, veel complexer dan het op het eerste gezicht lijkt.
Schilderachtige, rustige Sainte-Mère-Eglise raakte betrokken bij een van de grootste exploits in de militaire geschiedenis in de nacht van 5 op 6 juni 1944, toen D-Day begon. Amerikaanse parachutisten werden overal in het gebied en in het dorp zelf gedropt. We zullen tijd toestaan om het belang van de parachutings te begrijpen en niet alleen de missies die moesten worden uitgevoerd, maar wat er feitelijk is gebeurd en waarom.

We had an excellent experience touring the Normandy beaches with Yves. His deep knowledge of the history brought each site to life, and he shared fascinating details and stories that greatly enhanced the experience beyond simply visiting the locations. Yves was kind, patient, and engaging throughout the day, always happy to answer questions and tailor his explanations to our interests. His passion for the subject matter was evident, and he made the tour both educational and memorable. We had an amazing day touring Normandy with Destination Normandy/Perambulations. Yves was our tour guide, picking us up at the Bayeux train station and escorting us to the various sites. We were very impressed with his knowledge, and ability to keep 8 hours of history extremely interesting, even for our 16 year old kids. Our guide had lots of good humor and was very candid when asking questions. He had a lot of diagrams and photos that really helped tie everything together for us. We stopped at Omaha Beach, American Cemetery, Pointe du Hoc, Utah Beach, and St. Mere Eglise. We stopped for some coffee upon being picked up and had a very nice lunch at a location suggested by Yves. We recommend watching The Longest Day and Band of Brothers prior to the trip. We will be recommending Perambulations to our friends and colleagues.
Our family had a great experience learning how, and seeing where, the events of D-Day unfolded. Humbling, but also encouraging hearing about some of the heroic stories and sobering to be walking the same grounds where it all took place. Our guide was the best providing new insights and we walked away with even more of an appreciation for everything that took place in Normandy. Bucket list tour.

Our guide was right on time. He was a great driver and also a great storyteller. He had Maps and an iPad and explained everything perfectly. He was so informative. This was an absolutely wonderful tour. I now have a much better under standing of the landings at D-Day thanks to him. I would highly recommend this tour. EXCELLENT. I cannot recommend this tour enough. Yves tailored our tour to our interests (my grandfather stormed Omaha). He is so knowledgeable and his interest and love of the subject is infectious! He made this trip truly special. I am a history teacher and have a high bar for tours - this was absolutely worth every penny and more.
Best tour ever! Our party of 7 went on a day tour with Anthony, who was organized, professional, and brilliant. We traveled with two seniors who used walkers and he patiently loaded and unloaded the walkers at every stop. He went at their pace and was so kind. We thought 8-9 hours would be a little long but we all left saying we could do another day as there is so much to see and learn in Normandy, and it fascinated all of us who range in age from 21-85! Having someone to drive us to all of the sites was worth every penny but Anthony added SO much with all of his expertise. We all enjoyed the plethora of knowledge that he has to share; he is truly gifted and had an answer for every question. I cannot recommend this tour enough.

Anthony was fabulous. we are so blessed to have had him as our guide. HIGHLY recommend his tour. he was extremely knowledgeable and taught us quite a bit. We thought we understood Normandy until we met Anthony. It's definitely worth the money to tour with someone that can really show you what happened on 6/6/45.
