Dit is de bucketlist D-Day excursie vanaf Bayeux — een volledig privé tour die het complete Amerikaanse verhaal van 6 juni 1944 omvat, inclusief Sainte-Mère-Église, waar Band of Brothers parachutisten landden voor zonsopgang op D-Day. Bij Pointe du Hoc, zoals te zien in Saving Private Ryan, wandel je tussen de originele kraters en bunkers waar U.S. Army Rangers de kliffen onder vuur beklommen. Op Omaha Beach vertelt je Gids over elke sector van de landing. Ontdek Sainte-Mère-Église, een stadje in Normandië, was een van de eersten die bevrijd werd tijdens de D-Day invasie op 6 juni 1944. Amerikaanse parachutisten van de 82e Luchtlandingsdivisie landden in het gebied, waarbij sommigen onbedoeld in de stad zelf vielen. Een beroemde gebeurtenis betrof parachutist John Steele, wiens parachute aan de kerktoren bleef hangen; hij deed alsof hij dood was voordat hij ontsnapte aan de Duitse gevangenschap. Na hevige gevechten veroverden de geallieerden de stad tegen de ochtend. Vandaag de dag staat Sainte-Mère-Église symbool voor D-Day dapperheid, met huldeblijken als een parachute op de kerk en musea ter ere van de bevrijding.
Ga naar Omaha Beach en passeer 8 km van de kust met uitzicht op het Engelse Kanaal. Aan de kust vind je een sculptuur genaamd Les Braves 'The Braves' ter ere van de soldaten die in de oorlog hebben gevochten. Een nabijgelegen museum kan optioneel worden bezocht.
Vervolg de tour naar de Normandy American Cemetery om hulde te brengen aan de strijders van de strijd. In 2019 bezochten president Macron en president Trump gezamenlijk de begraafplaats ter ere van de 75e verjaardag van DDay. Ook kun je bij het bezoekerscentrum langskomen voor een uitgebreide tentoonstelling over de oorlog.
Je eerste stop is bij Point du Hoc, waar je de talrijke bomkraters zult zien die sinds de oorlog onaangeroerd zijn gebleven. Klim door de verschillende bunkers om te zien hoe de Duitsers de kliffen in hun voordeel gebruikten en stel je voor hoe de Amricanen de batterij aanvielen en veroverden nadat ze de kliffen hadden beklommen.

This one day (8 hour) tour generally focussed on the USA journey. It was excellent. There were 6 of us in a private mini bus. We were picked up from our private Air BnB accommodation. We had a great English speaking guide, 'Sophia', who had her own family connections to D Day which made it all the more genuine. She gave us great intel and was able to answer all of our questions. She planned the day well so we avoided the crowds and we covered a lot of ground in a very full on day. My only criticism was that there was some confusion over the start time. We originally booked it for 09:30 and then changed it to 08:30. Despite the paperwork recognising this, the message never got to the tour guide or driver so they came at 09:30. This left us anxious whilst we were waiting for them to arrive and resulted in me having to chase it up. All in all, it didn't spoil our day but, in terms of feedback - its worth double checking.

Our guide was superb and her choices perfect for us. She was extremely knowledgeable bringing fresh views to our trip. Went from Honfleur to Normandy US sites. Driver only no guide but Gianni was on time, very professional and helped guide us through our options and keep us on track to see everything we wanted to include and get us back to our cruise line right on time.

The most memorable points of interest were Pointe du Hoc and the American Cemetery. We also visited Gold Beach, Arromanches, the Overlord Museum and Bayeux, It was all very special. Sunny made sure we got to experience what we wanted and she and Mo were very considerate of our time and making sure we had a great experience….which we did.
