Milford Sound Grand Tour Helicopter Scenic Flight Vertrekkend vanuit Milford Sound

We took the Grand Tour. Glacier landing wasn’t possible due to cloud cover so we did two other landings: a remote lake and a gorgeous beach. Our pilot Chris was terrific. Victoria in the office was extremely responsive and helpful as we planned our day. This is an absolute must do when visiting Milford Sound.

My kayak trip had been cancelled, so I was looking for alternatives. The two ladies at Milford Helicopters were so friendly and helpful when I stepped in to enquire. The flight was breathtaking, the glacier landing was amazing. Our pilot was more than happy to take all the photos, then! A little extra treat - I got to fly back in the front seat after dropping the others at their tour bus. Check them out if you're visiting Milford, a superb operation, run by wonderful people.

The weather gods were kind after failed attempts at a flight at Franz Joseph and Fox Glacier and we finally got to enjoy a mind blowing flight. We were very grateful for Ann’s coordination and persistence in getting us in the air on our second day of trying for this flight, especially working around a pre booked cruise. We were expecting a scenic flight over Milford Sound, but this was SO much MORE. The view of the spectacular ranges seemed endless, and a vastly different perspective than from ground level. After flying over Sutherland falls and Lake Quill (and other tarns) we dropped down to land on a ridge for more photo opportunities. We alighted from the helicopter and looked back at the falls and lake, across a massive void. There was ample opportunity to take photos of the falls and surrounding mountain tops, while marvelling at the skill level of our pilot Dion. Our second landing was on Tutoko glacier and again allowed time for stunning photo opportunities and a quick walk around the soft snow. There were 4 passengers on our flight and 3 of us were able to rotate through the front seat. The pilot excelled at banking and turning the helicopter to enable all passengers to get the best possible views. The commentary and information provided by the pilot was educational and interesting. This really was a once in a life time experience which far exceeded our expectations and has provided memories that will last a lifetime. You can’t put a price on that. We absolutely loved this tour and it was a definite highlight of our week away. Very glad that we went with the Grand Tour option as the additional flight time was 100% worth it. The views were spectacular and the commentary and banter was great. Always reassuring to be flown by safe, experienced operators. Massive thanks to the pilot for the tidbit of local knowledge about the swimming hole just off the Milford Road too - great spot for a dip on our way home! Looking forward to flying with Milford Helicopters or Te Anau Helicopter Services again in the future. Date of experience: February 2022
