Pittoreske Borjomi Een weg door een fantastisch mooie kloof leidt je naar Borjomi: je loopt rond het stadscentrum, bezoekt een park waar keizer Nicolaas II en zijn familie elk jaar rusten, zie een monument voor Prometheus en een mooie waterval, en beklim ook de kabel auto naar het plateau van waaruit ze een prachtig uitzicht op de omgeving openen. Natuurlijk zullen we het hebben over het beroemde 'mineraalwater', dat wordt gedolven in de vallei met dezelfde naam op het grondgebied van het nationale park Borjomi-Kharagauli. Ik zal u vertellen over de resultaten van archeologische opgravingen die licht werpen op de geschiedenis van lokaal mineraalwater, en direct vanaf de bron kunt u het wereldberoemde water proeven.
Middeleeuws fort Rabat Je maakt kennis met een van de meest expressieve en kleurrijke monumenten van Georgië, waarbij letterlijk de energie van beide culturen wordt geabsorbeerd: het fort was het belangrijkste doorvoerpunt tussen de christelijke en de moslimwereld. Je zult de hallen van het paleis onderzoeken, ingericht in de oude Georgische stijl, en de indrukwekkende grootte van het fort zelf en de rijkdom aan decoratie mag je niet onverschillig laten. Ik zal u vertellen over de oprichting van Rabat, de naam ervan en de betekenis van Akhaltsikhe in de geschiedenis van Georgië uitleggen.
Grot Vardzia Het oude complex van Vardzia is niet alleen uitgehouwen in de rotsen. Dit grotfort is een klooster gebouwd niet ver van Tbilisi in de 12e eeuw. De buitengewone stad heeft 13 niveaus en meer dan 500 kamers: kerken, kapellen, wooncellen, pantry's, baden, refterijen, schatkisten, bibliotheken. De kamers gaan 50 meter diep en stijgen tot een hoogte van acht verdiepingen, bovendien blijven geheime doorgangen die het pand met elkaar verbonden, de overblijfselen van de watervoorziening en het irrigatiesysteem bewaard. Tijdens de tour verken je elke hoek van Vardzia en ontdek je welk doel de rotsstad werd gebouwd en welke functies het in de geschiedenis van zijn bestaan vervulde. En op weg naar het oude complex ziet u een prachtig panorama van het perfect bewaard gebleven fort van Khertvisi.

A very interesting excursion, a trip to the picturesque mountains, the history of Georgia, would like to mention separately our guide, David 14. Positive, knowledgeable of history, and just a good man with a lot to say about his country. We were on a long field trip to Borjomi, Vargia, Rabat. The tour was absolutely magnificent, our guide David(14), was unspeakably interesting. He is young enough, but with the delight he tells of his love for the Motherland, he knows its history well, but even more he shows his respect for the guests of his region. When we went into churches, David lowered his voice in respect of the people of faith. He's managed to bring together complete strangers before. In general, this tour will remain in my heart and memory for years to come.

We had a wonderful trip today to Borjomi, Rabati Castle, and the Vardzia Caves. Well organized. Your tour guide was well informed and communicated well - would’ve have been better if they separated the groups based language - the constant switch between English and Russian meant some things were missed in the moment. Lots more driving than sightseeing but it’s understandable given the distance from Tbilisi.
