"Khor Virap Klooster biedt de meest adembenemende uitzichten op de Bijbelse berg Ararat. Het klooster heeft een aanzienlijk religieus en historisch belang - zicht waar Sint Gregorius de Verlichter gevangen zat en het christendom zijn start nam in Armenië. De Kathedraal van Echmiadzin (letterlijke vertaling : De nederdaling van de Eniggeborene) is het centrum van de Armeens-Apostolische kerk oorspronkelijk gebouwd in het begin van de 3e eeuw voor Christus en een aantal bronnen vermelden ook dat Etchmiadzin de oudste officiële christelijke kerk ter wereld is. Dit is uw kans om zo'n unieke en unieke plek in de wereld te bezoeken en te verkennen! De kerk van St. Hripsime is gewijd aan een van de 40 maagden die ontsnapten uit het Romeinse rijk. De kerk staat sinds de bouw grotendeels intact en wordt alom bewonderd om zijn architectuur, die wordt beschouwd als een meesterwerk van de klassieke Armeense architectuur, en heeft veel andere Armeense kerken beïnvloed.

Het Khor Virap-klooster ligt op ongeveer een uur rijden van de hoofdstad Yerevan en biedt een geweldig uitzicht op het bepalende symbool van Armenië - de majestueuze Ararat. "Khor Virap" vertaalt als "diepe kerker", en werd gebouwd op de plaats van de voormalige koninklijke gevangenis, gelegen op de historische plek van Artashat. Het was deze gevangenis waarin ze Gregorius de Verlichter, de eerste Armeense Catholicos, dertien jaar lang vasthielden.
Je bezoekt de St. Hripsime-kerk, die werd gebouwd op het graf van een christelijke non Hripsime die het Romeinse rijk ontvluchtte en in Armenië werd vermoord. Dit verbazingwekkende gebouw staat rechtop vanaf de dag van de bouw sinds 618 na Christus, waardoor het een van de oudste nog staande kerken ter wereld is.
Op vijf minuten rijden is onze volgende plek: de 7e-eeuwse kerk van St. Gayane. Gayane was de oppas van Hripsime en deelde het tragische lot van Hripsime.
U kunt de eerste christelijke kathedraal ter wereld bekijken – de Heilige Ejmiatsin, gebouwd in 301-304. Volgens de legende daalde Jezus Christus af op dezelfde plek waar het Dissention Altaar vandaag staat, waar Gregorius de Verlichter opdracht gaf om de kerk te bouwen. De kathedraal is een symbool van de Armeense nationale identiteit en erfgoed, als weerspiegeling van de diepgewortelde christelijke traditie van het land.
De kathedraal van Zvartnots, nu in ruïnes, is een 7e-eeuwse centraal geplande tetraconch type Armeense kathedraal gebouwd door de orde van Catholicos Nerses de Bouwer van 643-652. Volgens de legende betekent de naam "Zvartnots" "hemelse engelen", geïnspireerd door het geloof dat engelen ooit over de tempel waakten. Het is opgenomen in de UNESCO-erfgoedlijst. In feite zijn alle kerken die deel uitmaken van de tour, vermeld op de UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

This tour was great! The tour guides of this company makes the visits interesting, engaging and enjoyable. Although there was a constant language switching by the tour guide from Russian to English and vice versa, which interrupted the immersion, still it was a very nice and valuable tour. I recommend them, especially if you book a tour in the Russian language, the experience will be much more unique. As a note to the operator, they should consider offering the same tours in Russian and in English as separate groups, this would keep the experience consistent in the preferred language. Other than that, everything was great

Were on an individual field trip with guide Karen today. We really enjoyed it. The guide spoke very well about the history of Yerevan, about all the temples we visited, learned very much new and unknown about the formation of Christianity. I highly recommend it. On my final day I had this half day trip booked for after I checked out and had my bags. It was a private tour so I had the car to myself. The driver came to my apartment at 10am to pickup as arranged. It was an older guy who didnt speak much English but tried to help as best as could. We went first to Khor Virap then back to the churches around the city Echmiadzin, Hripsime, Gayane, and Zvarnots temple. I was dropped back at Republic Squre where I had requested. It was very convenient to have my own driver after two large bus tours on previous days and reasonably priced.
