The bus driver was also the guide. While they were an excellent driver on the very narrow and windy roads, they did not provide any history or in deprh knowledge of the area or the sights we were seeing. The company should employ 2 seperate people — a driver and guide.
The driver, who was also the guide , was very nice, and personable, but offered little to no Celtic history of the area, which is something we were expecting. To be fair, this was not the driver’s fault, but the fault of TimbrrbushbTours, as this is really a 2 person job — that of a driver and then a different person hired to give an explanation and history of everything we were seeing. The driver was very skilled at navigating these narrow and windy roads of the Highlands , and kept us entertained with little tid bits of the area , like some famous people living there, and the conditions of the roads in winter, etc, but we were expecting someone to tell us about the stories behind the fairy pool, and the families and history of the 2 castles we visited (which, incidentally, we were given not enougj time to explore). So, basically , the tour was mostly riding in a bus , and admiring scenery. I would not recommend this tour company. If you feel confident enough to drive these windy roads, or if you can hire a private driver, your money will be better spent.
Our two-day Isle of Skye tour was absolutely fantastic, and Ingy made the entire experience unforgettable. From Dunvegan Castle and Eilean Donan Castle to the Fairy Pools and so many other beautiful stops along the way, the itinerary was incredible. We never once felt rushed, and Ingy made sure we had plenty of time to enjoy each location. What really set this tour apart were all the personal touches. Ingy listened to our interests and went out of his way to find hidden gems and unique stops we never would have discovered on our own. He even brought carrots and found a place where we could feed the Highland cows, as well as bird seed so we could hand-feed the birds—such fun and memorable experiences! He also took the time to recommend great places for dining during our trip. Ingy is incredibly knowledgeable about the Highlands and Isle of Skye, and his enthusiasm for the area made the tour even more enjoyable. He was personable, accommodating, funny, and just an all-around genuinely nice guy. We have taken several small-group and private tours during our travels, and Ingy was by far the best driver and tour guide we have ever had. Our two days exploring the Isle of Skye were one of the highlights of our trip to Scotland, and that was largely thanks to Ingy and his local knowledge, enthusiasm, and attention to detail. We couldn’t recommend him or this tour highly enough!
Ben was extremely knowledgeable about the sites, routes, and any other question we had. He’s also very experienced with the local shops, and when I asked for recommendations for places to eat in portree, or how to book a taxi, he was able to list off a couple places, and knew the taxi number off the top of his head. Even though we had rain, we were able to see and do so much, I hardly feel like I missed anything! Ben made this tour. He lifted our spirits, and even though we were damp, everyone on the bus were friends by the end of the tour. Ben was also very accommodating, and tried to fulfill our requests to the best of his ability, such as wait at certain sites, or pass ones we weren’t too thrilled about. Ben loves his job, and it shows through his work. Timberbush tours is very lucky to have him, and I would definitely recommend them.
Ben is a gifted storyteller and historian! Enjoyable tour despite the 2 days of pouring rain. Appreciated the adaptions so we could go to a distillery and see the Coos.
I would recommend this tour to everyone. I think what made it so good was the fact that the tour guide, Alan, was on top of his game. He was very likeable, knowledgeable, and informative, and a great sense of humor. The sights were amazing! Scotland is a beautiful country!
From the beach and 38 degrees in Croatia to 12 degrees on the Isle of Sky
The best tour I’ve done with Timberbush to date (and this was #5) - Our guide, Caz, was the most hilarious, most genuine human being that I’ve ever had the privilege of meeting. The tour was the right amount of historical information, insider information, and customization to what the group wanted to hear. We got to experience a good taste of what the Isle of Skye has to offer (including the famous Scottish hospitality), and I will forever tell everyone that this tour was the BEST part of my 3 week vacation. Thank you, Caz!!
What an amazing experience! It was fabulous to see the Isle of Skye with a personal guide. Fiona wa an outstanding host for the trip, sharing so much about the history and natural phenomena along the way. Highly recommend this tour!
Fiona was our tour guide and did an amazing job. We had a great time, saw beautiful scenery and learned a lot. Would highly recommend the trip. Make a dinner reservation in Portree. The lodging in Portree wasn't my favorite but it was clean. Remember, Portree is an old village so don't expect modern accommodations.
