Het Sanahin kloostercomplex, gesticht in de 10e eeuw, valt samen met de periode van de Bagratuni dynastie. De eerste kerk, Surb Astvatsatsin, werd gebouwd in 51. Het klooster heeft vijf kerken, een bibliotheek, een klokkentoren, een academie en een koninklijk graf. Overigens is hier de oudste academie van Armenië gevestigd. Samen met Haghbat was Sanahin een van de eersten die werd opgenomen onder de wereldwijde bescherming van UNESCO.
Haghbat ligt dicht bij Sanahin en is een uitgestrekt kloostercomplex met vele kerken en religieuze en seculiere gebouwen. De eerste kerk, Surb Nshan, werd gebouwd in 976. De grootste bibliotheek van Armenië was te vinden in Haghbat, waar een speciale manier was om boeken op te slaan. Ze werden in de gaten geplaatst en wijn werd er in open toestand bij geplaatst, zodat vocht de manuscripten niet zou bederven. Haghbat is al eeuwenlang een belangrijk centrum van Armeense geschiedenis, cultuur en onderwijs.
De naar de heilige Mariam Astsvatsatsin genoemde kerk van het Akhtala-kloostercomplex is de grootste in de regio onder de kerken die naar de heilige maagd zijn vernoemd. Met zijn unieke fresco's, architectuur en sculpturen is dit klooster al eeuwenlang een spiritueel centrum voor Armeniërs en vele andere volkeren. Op het grondgebied van het kloostercomplex zijn St. Grigor Lusavorich kerk, ondergronds bad, koninklijk paleis en andere gebouwen. Vanwege de overvloed aan koper kreeg de nederzetting de naam Akhtala, waarnaar het klooster werd vernoemd. Akhtala is een van de unieke historische en culturele plaatsen met zijn paspoort, een verslag in de vorm van een khachkar, waarin staat dat Mariam, de dochter van koning Kyurike, het klooster heeft gesticht.
Odzun Kerk, gelegen in de Armeense provincie Lori, is een 8e-eeuwse basiliek oorspronkelijk gebouwd in de 4e eeuw, opmerkelijk voor zijn unieke architectonische kenmerken en ingewikkeld houtsnijwerk. Het dient als een belangrijke culturele en historische site, die het rijke christelijke erfgoed van Armenië weerspiegelt en bezoekers aantrekt met zijn artistieke schittering en omliggende oude begraafplaats.
Aramyants Castle is een van Lori’s mooiste en historisch belangrijkste monumenten. Gebouwd in de Zwitserse chaletstijl, het is een van de zeldzame bewaard gebleven kastelen in Armenië. Ooit een luxe zomerverblijf, werd het ook een plaats van groot nationaal belang - de Verklaring van de Eerste Republiek Armenië werd hier aangenomen.

Today I once again experienced a very informative and competently guided tour with Anahit (guide) and Flat (driver). We visited AKHTALA MONASTERY, ARAMYANTS CASTLE, HAGHPAT MONASTERY, SANAHIN MONASTERY and Odzun monastery, which was outside the program. Since we were seven travelers (from Armenia, someone from the USA and me from Switzerland), Anahit suggested this to us and we were very excited about this extraordinary opportunity. I have taken a couple of tours with this travel agency, and I loved all of them. The quality of the services provided is high, the treatment is very good, and the scenery is stunning. This trip to the Lori region really showcases the natural beauty of Armenia and its rich and ancient culture. The road to each of the locations is very smooth and absolutely beautiful as we travelled through the mountains. We had enough time at each location to take a break and look around. There were enough facilities (shops and washrooms) around for basic needs. Our guide Knarik Harutyunyan was so helpful, kind, funny and energetic, and she provided us with all the necessary historical information about each location. She also takes great pictures!!:))) Also the driver was very helpful, and I felt safe in the car during the trip. I absolutely loved this trip organized by One Way Tour! PS: I highly recommend to have Armenian coffee at the beautiful location in Mendz Er! The view is amazing!!

A well thought-out and organized tour where I saw many unique landscapes and monastery complexes while meeting nice people! Karmela has declared very committed and enthusiastic and has a great background knowledge that she is happy to pass on. Not only have I learned a lot about monasteries, but also Armenia in general. I was lucky that it was a mixed Armenian-international tour group, so beautiful scenes were created, such as spontaneous lessons in Armenian dances during a tea break.
