Eyre Square, in het hart van de stad Galway, staat officieel bekend als het John F. Kennedy Memorial Park. Het plein heeft een rijke geschiedenis die teruggaat tot de Middeleeuwen toen er markten werden gehouden op het groen voor de stadspoorten. Een gedenkteken voor de Amerikaanse president Kennedy, die Freeman van de stad werd, markeert de plek waar hij in 1963 een toespraak hield tot ongeveer 100.000 inwoners van Galway, op zijn laatste reis voor zijn moord.
Lynch's Castle, het is een treffend voorbeeld van een middeleeuws versterkt huis. Het kasteel is vier verdiepingen hoog met verfraaide gebeeldhouwde ramen, waterspuwers en sierlijsten en kroonlijsten. Gebouwd door de machtige Lynch-familie als bescherming tegen invallen, delen van het kalkstenen gebouw dateren misschien uit de 14e eeuw, maar het grootste deel ervan werd gebouwd in de 16e eeuw. De Lynches, van Anglo-Normandische afkomst, waren een van de machtige 14 stammen die Galway regeerden.
De Collegiate Church of St. Nicholas is de grootste middeleeuwse parochiekerk in Ierland die continu in gebruik is als gebedsplaats in het hart van het leven van Galway.
Een van de mooiste middeleeuwse straatjes in Galway, Kirwan's Lane, gelegen in wat nu het Quartier Latin wordt genoemd. Het ligt in het centrum van het gebied dat oorspronkelijk binnen de stadsmuren lag en is vernoemd naar de Kirwan's, een van de veertien "stammen" van Galway. Rooms-katholieke kathedraal in Galway, een van de grootste en meest indrukwekkende gebouwen in de stad. De koepel van de kathedraal, op een hoogte van 44,2 meter (145 ft), is een prominent herkenningspunt in de skyline van de stad.
1845, dat was het jaar waarin Queen's College Galway werd opgericht. Na de bouw van het iconische Quadrangle-gebouw opende de universiteit vier jaar later haar deuren voor het eerste cohort van slechts 68 studenten.

Our guide Arthur has a wealth of information to share about Galway and he made history come alive! Instead of us trying to find historical landmarks by ourselves, Arthur led us to cool sites and gave us awesome background info! As a native of Galway, Arthur has great inside info on Galway's history and he made learning fun for our 13 year old son!

Our guide Clare was on time, prepared, and very knowledgeable. Her route for our Galway tour was logical and inclusive of historical references while taking advantage of conveniences such as transportation hubs, pharmacies, restaurants and entertainment venues. Arthur was an amazing tour guide - he has so much knowledge about the city and is so excited to share it with you! This was an excellent tour. I lived in Galway for years and was genuinely blown away by how much history I knew nothing about. Arthur knows the city inside out and was able to answer every question that came up. He is personable, friendly and incredibly knowledgeable, and I learned so much. I came away with a much greater appreciation for this wonderful city. So many locals stopped to greet Arthur along the way, which made the whole experience feel even more authentic. You can also tell how much he enjoys what he does, and that enthusiasm really comes through throughout the tour. I would absolutely recommend this as a must-do for anyone visiting (or living in!)
