We thoroughly enjoyed the two days we spent with João. We did a custom tour with a pickup in Porto and a drive through the spectacular Douro Valley along the N222, winery visits, authentic Portuguese lunches, and coffee stops! João’s knowledge of wine, cuisine, and history entertained and informed us during the time we spent together. He is a tourism professional, and it adds so much to your experience to be guided by a knowledgeable insider. We loved the wine, we loved the food, and we will definitely be back to experience more of this beautiful country with João!

My boyfriend and I took booked the tour with João and it did not disappoint! João was an amazing tour guide, super knowledgeable about wine and the region and took us to three fantastic vineyards where they treated you like family! He took us to this amazing local lunch spot to eat suckling pig which is a delicacy in Portugal! I am not the biggest meat fan and this was AMAZING! I highly recommend booking this tour as it was a highlight of our trip! João is super easy to communicate with and his English is amazing! We know have a lifelong friend! Thank you again for making our one year anniversary trip so special!

This was a major highlight of our trip to Portugal. João, who grew up in Douro, was an excellent guide who took us on a private tour to small and large wineries. We ended up purchasing some excellent white wine (of which I’m not normally a fan) from a smaller winery and had it shipped back to the US. To top it all off, a wonderful lunch at DOC - Chef Rui Paula (we requested this specifically, and while this restaurant does not have a Michelin designation, the chef also runs a two-star establishment), which boasts a serene setting on the river surrounded by the terraced vineyards. We wouldn’t hesitate to book this again when we come back!

Wonderful wonderful trip in Douro Valley. The landscape is beautiful and i even seen such an amazing view in other counties before. Joao is a very knowledgeable sommelier, he can answer all my questions about wine and the history about Porto. He has a very good relationship with the local people in Douro Valley. If i come to Porto next time, i definitely join the tour again and even stay for 2 to 3 days there to walk around. Thank you Joao, you are the best 😊

We had an exceptionally good experience with Joao tasting wines and touring the Douro Valley. He knew wonderful, out of the way and gorgeous spots, taught us about way more than wine - also bits of history and life in Portugal. All in all, an incredible day and we highly recommend!!

Found Joao of Sommelier Tours through another private referral and I am so grateful that I did! This is a private guided tour by an actual Sommelier who was incredibly knowledge of not only everything wine related, but the history of the Douro Valley region and Porto itself. His extensive knowledge in wine and this region is impressive! Joao is also so personable, kind, and funny! He has went above and beyond to give a 5 star lux-worthy experience for such a great value. I booked this tour myself but Joao even help set up our engagement privately between my fiancé when he reached out. Lunch at DOC by the famous Michelin chef Rui Paula was amazing, so was the private boat cruise. The Quinta’s Joao took us to was also fantastic, from a family owned boutique vineyard to a large scale commercialized one. It was so interesting to see the two difference! One was more traditional with the feet stepping and homey hospitality while the second (Sandeman Seixo) had stunning properties and views. Tour can be personalized! I would always recommend Sommelier Tour and definitely come back

I was beyond impressed with João and the private tour we had. Even before we arrived to Portugal, João was super responsive to all the questions I had and emailed back instantly. João was extremely knowledgable and my fiancé and I learned a lot on the tour. João went above and beyond to accommodate our requests. He even brought us a little treat from his town (it was amazing). I loved Quinta do Cume. We had a private tour with the winemaker and then tried their award winning wine in a beautiful setting surrounded by the vines. We only did a half day tour and visited two wineries and now I am wishing we booked a full day! When we come back to the Douro, we will book all of our tours with João. I can't recommend enough. Thank you João for the best tour ever!
