Het mooie van een privérondrit door de Cotswolds is de vrijheid en flexibiliteit die het je op de dag geeft. Deze tour heeft een vaste route waar we een aanbevolen route hebben. Hier hebben we idyllische dorpjes gecombineerd met de bekendere Cotswold-steden. Dit geeft je een prachtig overzicht en ervaring van waar het in de Cotswolds allemaal om draait. Omdat het een privétour is, zijn we volledig flexibel in hoe lang je op elke plaats wilt. We zijn ook erg flexibel en passen het reisschema op de dag graag aan als u dat wilt.

Ophalen bij Southampton
We vertrekken vanuit Southampton en rijden ongeveer 1 uur en 30 minuten. Het is gemakkelijk te begrijpen waarom William Morris Bibury 'Het mooiste dorp van Engeland' noemde - prachtige stenen gebouwen langs de oevers van de rivier de Coln. Bibury is het meest bekend vanwege Arlington Row, dat zelfs op de binnenkant van Britse paspoorten staat!
Bourton-on-the-Water, ook wel bekend als het 'Venetië van de Cotswolds', is een van de beroemdste steden in de Cotswolds en wordt regelmatig uitgeroepen tot een van de mooiste dorpen van Engeland. Er is genoeg te zien en te doen met een schat aan attracties, winkels, restaurants en tearooms.
Stow-on-the-Wold is een van de mooiste steden in Gloucestershire, doordrenkt van geschiedenis en gebouwd door de Noormannen. Het combineert honingkleurige gebouwen, gezellige pubs, smalle straatjes, interessante winkels en kleine theesalons. We zullen hier tijd hebben om te lunchen in een lokale pub of theesalon.
De beroemde hoofdstraat van Burford loopt bergafwaarts richting de rivier de Windrush, met een ononderbroken rij oude huizen en winkels, evenals een middeleeuwse brug en een indrukwekkende kerk. Burford staat bekend om zijn winkels - met name antiek - en om de grote verscheidenheid aan restaurants, pubs en theewinkels.
Het woord Slaughter komt van het oude Engelse woord voor 'miry place'. Laat je echter niet misleiden door de naam, want dit dorp wordt beschouwd als een van de mooiste dorpen in de noordelijke Cotswolds en ligt in het meest verbazingwekkende landschap. Lower Slaughter is ook uitgeroepen tot het meest romantische dorp van het land.
Dit mooie dorp aan de rivier de Windrush heeft veel Cotswold-steen en rieten daken, en heeft ook de titel van het meest spookachtige dorp van de regio. Minster Lovell is misschien het best bekend vanwege de ruïnes van de 15e-eeuwse hal, eigendom van generaties van de familie Lovell.

Great experience. The Cotswald’s are charming little villages. Sonya was an excellent guide. Very knowledgeable and friendly. She dropped us off and picked us up at different points which was nice for my wife who has some mobility issues. Very glad we went.

We had a lovely full day tour out of Southampton, taking in 5 beautiful Cotswald villages, commencing with Bibury and ending with Burford. Our tour guide and driver, Ian, was very knowledgeable providing details of the history of these villages and sites of significance. The tours and visits were well organized and nicely paced. It was a lovely day trip!
Our guide Ian showed us around the Cotswolds in a clean, comfortable vehicle and provided wonderful commentary about the area and its history and culture. He was very receptive to our questions and was the consummate guide. We visited Bibury, Bourton-on-the-Water, Lower Slaughter, Stow-on-the-Wold, and Burford and had ample time to wander about in each location. Because we mentioned that we are fans of Downton Abbey, he kindly substituted Bampton as our final stop that day. The itinerary was perfect as each lovely village was different from the one before so the entire day was interesting and memorable. I cannot recommend Ian and Southampton Tours highly enough.
Our tour was originally scheduled for Saturday but we were notified on Thursday that the original driver was became unavailable so we were asked if rescheduling for Sunday would be OK. That was a bit disappointing because the weather Saturday was forecast much better than Sunday, but we agreed. Sunday, indeed, was rainy and that was a but disappointing. But enough about the weather. Our driver was prompt, safe, very friendly, very knowledgeable, and provided a great tour complete with history, and local stories ranging from English history to Russian spies to Nazi scandals all giving us a connection to this beautiful part of the world. He told us what a "Marmite thing" is and I have discovered that I am pro-Marmite. Due to the rescheduling, the tour company treated us to a great Sunday Dinner at a beautiful Inn. These are all great memories contributing to why we travel.

We had a private two day tour of the Cotswolds and nearby areas with Marcus from Cotswolds Tours and Travel. He was an amazing guide in his knowledge, sense of humor and flexibility in our 2 days of travel with him. Among the places we visited were Stratford, Blenheim, and Bletchley. Each was interesting and at times spectacular. At all stops and on the way, Marcus provided us with bits of history about the area and countryside.
