Als je een rondleiding wilt die je langs alle belangrijke locaties in de Britse en Amerikaanse sectoren van de landingsstranden van D-Day in Normandië brengt en individuele zitplaatsen wilt boeken, dan is dit de tour voor jou! Deze tour begint op een geschikt tijdstip en is zo ontworpen dat u kunt ontbijten in uw hotel voordat u uw gids ontmoet bij het vertrekpunt van de tour in het centrum van Bayeux. Eenmaal aan boord wordt u vervoerd in een moderne bus/bus met airconditioning om de belangrijkste locaties in de Gold- en Omaha-sector te bezoeken. U zult blijvende herinneringen aan uw bezoek bewaren, waaronder een wandeling over het terrein van de prachtige Amerikaanse begraafplaats in Normandië.

We houden ervan om op schema te rijden en als u niet op de aangegeven instaptijd op het vertrekpunt bent, vertrekken we. Er zullen anderen aan boord zijn die zijn aangekomen zoals gevraagd en we willen hun ervaring niet beïnvloeden. Als u laat arriveert, moet u op eigen kosten een taxi nemen om de rondleiding in te halen. We raden u ten zeerste aan om vroeg aan te komen voor de tour, aangezien er geen restitutie in aanmerking komt als u de dienst mist.
Gold Beach werd op D-Day aangevallen door Britse troepen. Hun doelstellingen waren om naar het westen te trekken, Arromanches te veroveren en zich aan te sluiten bij de Amerikaanse troepen die in Omaha landden. Ga oostwaarts om je aan te sluiten bij de troepen die landen op Juno Beach en trek landinwaarts om de middeleeuwse stad Bayeux in te nemen.
Arromanches werd gekozen als locatie voor Mulberry B Artifical Harbour; beter bekend als port Winston naar Churchill. We zullen de indrukwekkende overblijfselen van dit verbazingwekkende bouwproject laten zien en uitleggen hoe belangrijk dit was voor het verslaan van de Duitsers in Normandië.
Deze indrukwekkende geschutsbatterijpositie is de enige positie langs de Atlantikmuur in dit deel van Frankrijk waar de kanonnen nog steeds ter plaatse staan. We zullen samen de site verkennen en je leert hoe deze werd gebouwd, hoe deze functioneerde en uiteindelijk hoe deze tot zwijgen werd gebracht.
Een van de beroemde Duitse kanonbatterijen bevond zich op de Pointe Du Hoc in Normandië. Het bestond uit zes langeafstandskanonposities en vele andere betonnen bunkers en vormde op D-Day een reële bedreiging voor de geallieerde schepen. Omdat deze batterij zich precies tussen de twee Amerikaanse landingsstranden bevond, hadden de geallieerde planners geen andere keuze dan deze positie uit te schakelen. Hier hoor je de ongelooflijke verhalen over de moed van de US Army Rangers die bijna 30 meter kliffen moesten beklimmen om de kanonnen te vernietigen.
De Amerikaanse 1e Infanterie- en 29e Infanteriedivisies, evenals elementen van de US Army Rangers, kregen de taak om vijf uitgangspunten te openen om de beweging landinwaarts te starten. Als je de verhalen van je gids hoort, begrijp je waarom dit strand bekend staat als "Bloody Omaha". Afhankelijk van het getij heb je de mogelijkheid om over het zand te lopen en het strand vanuit het perspectief van de soldaten te bekijken. Vanuit dit gezichtspunt zijn de hoge kliffen waarop ooit machinegeweren werden afgevuurd, zeer intimiderend.
De Normandy American Cemetery beslaat 172 hectare en is de laatste rustplaats voor vele duizenden militairen. U heeft voldoende tijd om het bezoekerscentrum te verkennen voordat u de tijd neemt om na te denken op de begraafplaats.
Het monument bevindt zich in de buurt van Ver-sur-Mer, dat uitkijkt over het Gold-strand, en bevat de namen van alle 22.442 soldaten die zijn omgekomen op D-Day en de Slag om Normandië. Je ziet drie meter hoge sculpturen van drie aanvallende infanteristen, die elk meer dan een ton wegen, gemaakt door beeldhouwer David Williams-Ellis.

Our guide Frédéric was a wealth of knowledge about the D-Day landings and presented the information in an interesting and engaging manner. He clearly has invested much time and energy in creating a thorough program about a complex subject. Thank you Frédéric! The Airborne Museum at Sainte-Mere-Eglise has 5 buildings of mezmering exhibits. It coincides with your lunch break. Mathieu was a wonderful tour guide. Friendly and extremely knowledgeable of the history of the area and the specific events of WW II that impacted the region. He answered everyone's questions and also informed the group about other events as we drove from site to site. The price was well worth it. The small group tour was much better than a larger one. Good pace of walking. We covered a lot of ground in one full day.

Bayeux Shuttle are a great company to deal with. They made the whole experience easy, interesting and enjoyable. Before the trip they responded quickly to my queries (thank-you Lucie) and they delivered a brilliant one day tour for myself and my American cousin. We actually had four tour guides on our trip(long, but good story). They all displayed great historical knowledge and wanted to make the whole day as interactive and interesting as possible. Tour carried out by Marie was excellent and more than what we had hoped for and read in previous reviews. She was knowledgeable, interactive, and told us little things that you would not find in textbooks or google. She adapted to our range of questions with many examples and historical gems. I would recommend Bayeux shuttle and in particular Marie to be our guide in this area. She even recommended a good gluten free restaurant that my wife enjoyed which shows her knowledge of what is available in the area.

We took the full day D-day tour. I’m so glad that we took a tour instead of attempting to see it ourselves. There’s so much more value/information/sites when you take the tour. Jordan is incredibly knowledgeable. He gave us nonstop, fascinating strategic information as well as some individual stories of heroism, and was able to answer all of my random questions. Free time for lunch in st mere Église was an added bonus. The amount of time at each stop was perfect. He kept us on schedule. Pick up/drop off was at our hotel (Villa Lara, also highly recommend). Nothing negative to say, highly recommend.!

This was a fantastic full day tour. Great to have a small tour of just eight people. The tour guide Jordan was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and Entertaining. Would highly recommend this tour.

This was a great tour for people of all WWII knowledge levels. I am not a big history buff. I might know slightly more than the average American about the Normandy invasion because my husband is so into WWII, but not much more than average. My husband has a degree in history with a special interest in WWII. He wasn’t sure about doing a tour because he felt like he could guide a tour. But we both really enjoyed it. All the little stories and pointing out the little things like artillery and certain areas that things happened cannot be learned from history books and classes. Having an expert on location is a completely different experience. My husband learned a lot. It was also great to have a local who could drive us right down to a less touristy area on Omaha Beach. Walking on Omaha was one thing my husband really wanted to do because he had an uncle who landed there. We were on a long stretch of beach with maybe 6 other people. It was definitely a hidden gem. And our guide, Rethro, was great. Very knowledgeable and entertaining.
