Ontmoet je deskundige gids voor een rit naar Chilkoot Lake State Park. Dit park heeft het allemaal: een turquoise meer omringd door besneeuwde bergtoppen, een rivier gevuld met zalm die uitmondt in de zee en belangrijke culturele bezienswaardigheden van Tlingit. Naarmate het aantal zalmen in de rivier toeneemt, neemt ook de kans op het zien van beren langs de rivier toe, met een goede kans op berenwaarnemingen van begin augustus tot eind september. Terwijl u door het park rijdt, weet uw gids de beste plaatsen om te stoppen voor landschap en de mogelijkheid om wilde dieren te spotten. Fort William H Seward kijkt uit over het Port Chilkoot Cruise Ship Dock. Gebouwd door het Amerikaanse leger in 1904, heeft het fort een gerucht verleden en is nu in particulier bezit en wordt onderhouden.

Best excursion during our 9 Day Alaskan Cruise. Katt was an exceptional tour guide. Her knowledge and passion made the 4 hours just fly by. We didn’t want it to end. Besides bald eagles, we saw a black bear enjoying a field of dandelions, a brown bear quite up close and personal (no need to get off the bus), and some mountain goats.
Katt was an excellent guide! Very knowledgeable of the area. We were able to see multiple Eagles. Seals, Mountain Goats, Swans, We saw a teenager Brown bear near the tree line. What an Amazing experience here in Haines Alaska.

Kat was great and very personable and knowledgeable. Saw plenty of wildlife including black and brown bears, swan, otter, and bald eagles. Included lunch was yummy.
That is amazing the amount of wildlife you saw on your tour with Katt. We never guarantee wildlife but every once in a while you hit the jackpot. I want to make sure you realize that it is extremely unusual to see both a brown and black bear on the same tour in Haines!
We had the pleasure of having Jeanette as our guide. She is a gem and led us to see many eagles and a family of bears (mama and 4 cubs). We could not have asked for a better time!
Catherine was an excellent guide. She was enthusiastic and really knew where to take us. We saw a bear feeding her 4 cubs and watched them for ages, another down river, bald eagles and heard so much about the salmon which is so important to this ecosystem. We were a small number, left from the cruise ship and had a lovely picnic spot. Haines was such a peaceful place. Can’t recommend highly enough.

Apparently July 2nd is not the time for this tour. The salmon aren't here, so neither are the bears, or the large number of bald eagles that feast on the salmon. Our guide Garret was very pleasant and informative, but there was only so much to work with. You can only talk about the river so much. And 3 1/2 hours was more than enough. We did see one bald eagle by the shore, and a couple of specks in a far off tree that were probably bald eagles, but I can't be sure. I don't think this tour, the "wilderness and wildlife" tour should be offered unless the salmon are running. We kept hearing "in a few weeks" this will happen, etc. Offer the tour in a few weeks, not now.
Thanks for your honest review of your tour experience with us. There are things we can control with the tours that we offer and there are things we cannot control. We can’t control the timing of the salmon runs nor the amount of wildlife that is seen on a particular tour. The animals, after all, are wild. You state that we should not offer this tour when the salmon are not running. It is important to note that salmon are only one piece of the complex Chilkoot Wildlife Corridor ecosystem. Bears are omnivorous and have to eat prior to the arrival of the salmon. We have encountered bears feeding on dandelions along the road in May. We have encountered bears turning over rocks to look for insect larvae in June. We see bears on the beach eating shellfish in July. So for us to not offer this tour because “the salmon are not running” would be a disservice to our guests. We have hundreds of people who have joined this tour in May, June and July who have given us five-star reviews. Each tour is unique due to the combination of weather, time of year, seasonal movements of wildlife and other factors. Our guides are knowledgeable and do all they can to find wildlife for our guests. If the wildlife does not present itself, we still provide an educational, small-group tour in a unique environment. I stand by the tour experiences that we offer.
