Fabulous tour with a small group & a great guide

Small group, great guide, experience exceeded my expectations. Our guide , Nicholas, had a spotting scope and he helped us take photos of an eagle by aligning our phones with the scope. Another highlight was a visit to a totem pole carving studio where 2 apprentice artists were working on totem poles.

Must do tour in Haines! Amazing lake views

Excellent tour and a must do in Haines! Our tour guide Grace was a pleasure and very knowledgeable. We made multiple stops for amazing views, didn’t see any bears but did see eagles. Highly recommend this tour while in Haines.

Bad marketing , disorganized , poor quality staff

This was terrible. It was marketed as a bear sighting tour. I don’t think the guide even said the word bear once beyond talking about a time he saw a bear. He drove very fast like to the point that it was essentially a highway ride as opposed to a bear search. Upon arriving we had to switch buses three times bc the operators were incredibly disorganized. This was the worst experience and we spent most of our time at a totem pole place that we had not signed up for; when looking for tours today I excluded all Viator recommendations as this was a very poor outcome.

Reactie van de operator

I am so sorry to hear that you felt this tour was terrible. We really try to provide an exceptional experience for all our guests. One of the ways that we provide exceptional experiences is by managing our guests’ expectations. That begins with the tour description. We are very careful not to market this as a bear viewing tour. We know from experience that the odds of seeing brown bears on these tours in June is relatively low. That is because the salmon run that begins in August is when the odds begin to increase. Our description on the Viator website states: “In May, June and July, the wildflowers are at their peak and eagles are busy caring for their young on the nest. Beginning in late July, the river fills with migrating salmon, while brown bears come down to the river’s edge to feed. As the number of salmon in the river increases, the likelihood of seeing bears down along the river increases, with a good probability of bear sightings from early August through late September.” As far as switching buses, please accept my apology. We keep up on our vehicle maintenance, but as with any vehicle (commercial or personal) there are sometimes mechanical issues. Safety is our number one priority. If we deem a vehicle to be unsafe for any reason, we immediately take it out of service. We pride ourselves on being organized, but sometimes situations come up that require last minute changes of plans. On your particular tour, we had a family group that did not all show up at the same time. Our guide loaded the bus and then the leader of the family group told the guide that there were more family members coming. But the bus was already full. So our guide asked for volunteers to switch buses so that the family could travel together. You were one of the volunteers. Because of the switch in buses, we ran into a capacity issue. The new bus you loaded into had a capacity of 11 guests, and now there were 12 guests. What to do? Rather than leave a guest at the dock or turn them away, I brought another bus down to the dock with more capacity. Our office is close to the cruise ship dock so this did not cause much delay. The tour was not shortened because of this, it was a 2.5 hour excursion as advertised.

A special morning out in Haines to remember.

Karla was informative, approachable and knowledgeable. The small group kept a personal feel and made it easier to see the wildlife. We were lucky as our timing worked really well. We managed to avoid other groups, it was early morning and low water, so we saw lots of wildlife.

Great Experience!

Our tour guide was Grace. We had a wonderful time visiting the Chilkoot Lake area. The views were amazing! The highlight for us was seeing a brown bear who was foraging for food on the side of the road. Grace was very informative and answered all our questions.

Close Encounters of the Bear-kind

Kat H was a very knowledgeable tour guide and provided a lot of information about wildlife and Haines itself. She was able to provide a close (but safe) encounter with a black bear. She was so good in fact, it was like she knew what the bear was thinking. When I come back to Haines, I am definitely requesting to tour with Kat again.

Bears and Eagles! 🐻🦅

Booked this tour the morning of. Hopped off the cruise ship and the Haines information desk connected us with Rainbow Glacier Adventures. Just a few hours later, we met up with Katt right by the dock. We are so glad that we booked this tour! Katt is an amazing guide. She is passionate about the wildlife here and did everything she could to get us the most wildlife viewings. We saw a bear and multiple bald eagles! She's great about slowing down or circling back so give all guests a chance to see the animals. She even helped us get great photos of an eagle with her spotting scope. My family loved this tour! Great value and comfortable for all ages.
