Txikiteo: La prima regola del club txikiteo è: non ci sono regole. Una definizione approssimativa di 'txikiteo' potrebbe essere: andare da un bar all'altro, mangiare un pintxo e bere un bicchiere di qualcosa (il solito è una bevanda a bassa gradazione alcolica, non un cocktail!) in ciascuno. Il txikiteo è finito in piedi, davanti al bar pieno di pintxos e circondato da persone che non conosci (ma che potresti finire per incontrare). Ed è proprio quello che farai con Ikusnahi: puro txikiteo, volando da un bar all'altro, assaggiando le specialità più rinomate di ciascuna in un ambiente genuinamente basco e circondato da gente del posto che, sai, non conosci.. .ma che potresti finire per incontrarti.
Pintxo: Un pezzo di cucina in miniatura che nasceva come qualcosa di semplice (una porzione di frittata di patate, una fetta di prosciutto sul pane...) e che i bar dei Paesi Baschi hanno migliorato nel tempo, rendendolo più complesso per attirare più clienti. La storia è avvincente e ci sono tante versioni quanti sono gli storici. Durante il nostro tour ne conoscerai alcuni, così come molte altre curiosità sul culto dello stomaco che esiste nei Paesi Baschi. Bere: questa è l'altra grande religione (insieme al mangiare) nei Paesi Baschi. Vino e sidro sono state le bevande preferite dai baschi negli ultimi cinque secoli, anche se negli ultimi anni la birra ha prevalso. Lo sapevi che nel XVI secolo i marinai baschi difficilmente soffrivano di scorbuto durante i lunghi viaggi per mare, grazie al sidro che bevevano?
Txakoli: vino bianco secco e frizzante tipicamente basco le cui uve sono coltivate in vigneti vicino al Mar Cantabrico. È ideale per accompagnare piatti di pesce... o pintxos. Nient'altro da aggiungere. Sidro: bevanda a bassa gradazione alcolica ottenuta dal succo di mela fermentato. Leggermente dolce, leggermente amarognolo, ha un solo pericolo: si beve facilmente come l'acqua. Zurito: Short drink di birra (circa 20-25 cl.) Ideale per accompagnare pintxos. Il termine "zurito" è esclusivo dei Paesi Baschi. Se vai a Madrid e chiedi uno "zurito" nessuno ti capirà (a meno che il barista non sia basco, ovviamente).

We had an incredible time exploring the pintxos scene in San Sebastián with Luis! He is a fantastic guide who is incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about the local food culture. It honestly felt less like a formal tour and much more like we were being shown around the city by a local friend. Over the course of the afternoon, Luis took us to five different spots, and the curation was absolutely perfect. We loved that we got a true taste of everything—the stops ranged from delicious, traditional bites to slightly more upscale, modern plates. The food at every single place was fantastic. Beyond the amazing food and conversation, he also went out of his way to give us great recommendations for the rest of our stay. If you are visiting San Sebastián, booking this tour with Luis is an absolute must. We highly recommend him!

Amazing experience, and our guide (Iñigo) was SO good. We learned not only about the history of pintxos, but also lots of history and how to navigate the various bars. Cider and wine as well as food was excellent. I am a vegetarian and this was nicely accommodated. Ask for Iñigo for extra fun - he’s super engaging, enthusiastic, and funny.

We had a lovely afternoon with Martin enjoying the local cuisine and learning about beautiful San Sebastián. We decided to do a private tour so we could go at our own pace. Martin was very accommodating and very knowledgeable about Spain, food and wine and especially the Basque cuisine and culture - answering all our questions.
So many good things to say. We were able to book online last minute. We had less than 24 hours. We booked a 5 wine/5 Pintxos tour with a private guide. The response was very quick. We learned later that the tour company usually doesn’t do tours on Sundays, but arrange one just for us. Our guide, Mattin, was knowledgeable and went to a great deal of efforts to customize the experience for us. We saw and learned things that we wouldn’t have discovered any other way. And he was just fun to spend time with. Highly, highly recommend.

I would give this tour 10 stars if I could! We spent an amazing 3 hours with Martin on the pinxtos San Sebastián tour. Martin is a local who was born and raised in San Sebastián and has a passion for sharing his city. His English is perfect and he delivers the perfect balance of food, culture, history and fun.
