Sun. Sept. 20th, 2026: Pickup was on time. Great driver. The tour guides Eric and Jorge were really efficient. Food was really good. It's cold there in the morning, dress warm! The guides made sure we got to where we were going very efficiently and security-minded at all times, like shepherds and we tgeir flock. ATV ride was fun and scenic, with some stops for photos. If you are tired or not used to hiking, can grab a horse for 60 soles one-way then a motorcycle to near the top for 30 soles. Beautiful sunny day and lots of fun was had by all! We had an amazing ATV trip to Rainbow Mountain and Red Valley! Everything was well organized, the views were absolutely incredible, and riding the ATVs made the experience even more fun and exciting. Our guide, Saddain, was fantastic—very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. He made sure we were comfortable and had a great time throughout the entire trip. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience and definitely one of the highlights of our Peru trip. Highly recommended! 🏔️🏍️🇵🇪

**Incredible experience — but PLEASE use a different tour company** The ATV experience, Red Valley, and Rainbow Mountain were absolutely incredible. The scenery was indescribable, and the ATV portion was fun and exhilarating. I would highly recommend doing this excursion while in Peru — **just do yourself a favor and book it through a different company.** I did several hiking excursions while in Peru with different tour companies, and unfortunately, this was one of the ones I would strongly recommend avoiding. The communication and pre-tour information from this company was extremely poor and, frankly, concerning. Our booking confirmation stated that our pickup time was **4:00 AM**, yet we were not notified until approximately **11:00 PM the night before** that our actual pickup time would be **3:15 AM**. Giving customers less than five hours' notice of a significantly earlier pickup time is unacceptable, especially when the entire excursion involves traveling and hiking at very high elevations. The lack of useful information continued once we were picked up. It wasn't until we were on the bus, on the way to breakfast, that we were finally given an overview of the day and told what gear we would need. Many of us had packed appropriately for Peru and had brought hiking gear, but **none of us had brought the specific items they were telling us we needed because the company had never communicated this information to us.** Conveniently, there was a man selling the exact gear we were suddenly told we needed at the breakfast stop. We ended up purchasing several items from him. At that point, the entire experience began to feel extremely unprofessional. More importantly, because we were about to participate in a physically demanding excursion at **very high altitude**, the lack of preparation and communication created a genuine sense of anxiety about whether we could trust this company to keep us safe. We pushed through, and thankfully, the actual excursion itself was spectacular. However, our concerns were unfortunately validated later in the day when we saw our tour guides **receiving what appeared to be a cut/payment from the man who had sold us the additional gear that morning.** Given the circumstances, this was extremely troubling. I cannot say with certainty what the arrangement was, but seeing this made the earlier lack of communication about the required gear feel far less like an oversight and much more like a deliberate practice designed to create an opportunity for additional sales. That completely changed how I viewed the experience. Again, **the actual sights and ATV experience were amazing.** Red Valley and Rainbow Mountain were highlights of our entire trip to Peru and absolutely worth doing. But a beautiful destination does not make up for a tour operator that leaves customers uninformed and questioning whether they can trust the people responsible for them. **My strongest recommendation: DO THIS EXCURSION, BUT BOOK IT WITH ANOTHER COMPANY.** I am also extremely disappointed in **Tripadvisor** for promoting and facilitating bookings for a tour operator with this kind of experience. I relied on Tripadvisor to help identify reputable excursion companies, particularly for an activity involving significant altitude and safety considerations. After this experience, I will be very hesitant to use Tripadvisor to book excursions in the future. The destination gets **5 stars**. The ATV experience gets **5 stars**. The tour company gets **1 star — and only because zero isn't an option.** Please don't let a spectacular destination convince you to overlook the importance of choosing a trustworthy operator.

It was so unorganized. Nobody reached out to me with pick up details, so the day before my trip, I reached out to them via Viator chat. They said they were going to reach out to me in the evening and didn’t provide me any details about pick up. At 7 pm, I called the number on Viator and the guy told me the pick up is 3:40 am. As I’m trying to sleep, I get a message from the tour guide after 9 pm saying the pick up will be between 3-3:15 am. I sent him the screenshot of the other conversation and he said he will make 3:40 work. When I woke up, I saw another message from the first guy saying the pick up will be at 3:20. Mind you, this is a super early pick up, so you need to have this detail ahead of time in order to wake up early enough to be ready on time. We rushed and made 3:20 work. They showed up at 3:42 am… I’ve never seen any tours that were disorganized before. We also selected English tour but most of the group was Spanish speakers so it was hard to follow up. Overall experience was not great.

The BEST day ever! Grimaldo was our guide and I cannot say enough good things about him. Right from pickup to the drop off, Grimaldo took great care and made sure we had the best experience. I got altitude sickness after the hike and he was very attentive and took great care of me. Very Highly recommend ATV Rainbow Mountain tours and Grimaldo for tour tide. Best day!

Sideways snow and crazy winds but cool to see - loved the ATVs

I’m sure for other days, this would be a great tour. However, it should have been canceled for safety reasons of weather the day we went. Many in our group decided to turn around for safety reasons and were not prepared or advised appropriately. Additionally, many unexpected aspects of the tour day (not per Viator) made it difficult in an already not great situation. The people were nice at least, and maybe on a better day would be a better experience.

I literally cannot imagine this trip going any better. Grimaldo and the guides went above and beyond every step of the way! We rode ATVs for so long all the way up the mountain and back down. Then we hiked to the peak. Grimaldo would make constant stops to allow us to take photos and even insist on taking photos of all the people who were travelling solo. At no point were we ever pressured into anything and it genuinely felt like their top priority every second of the trip was for us to have a great time. You don't see that often these days. If you're on the fence, don't even give it a second's thought and just pull the trigger.

This ATV tour to Rainbow Mountain and Red Valley was one of the highlights of my Peru trip! This tour made the early wake-up call and colder-than-expected morning temperature 100% worth it. The ATV ride was so much fun, and the scenery along the way was absolutely unreal; I saw herds of llamas and alpacas and landscapes that you wouldn’t experience unless you took the ATV route. A huge shoutout to our guide, José José! He was friendly, knowledgeable, patient, and encouraging throughout the tour. Since ATVs can't reach the summit, there's a short hike at high altitude, and he made sure everyone in our group made it up safely. He also took amazing photos for us! My only suggestion for improvement is the communication before the tour. I booked in April but didn't receive any confirmation or pre-tour information, so I had to contact the company myself the day before to confirm my reservation, pickup details, and other information, which was unlike other tours in Peru that reached out proactively. That said, the tour itself more than made up for it. I had an amazing time and would definitely recommend X Travel Peru and José José to anyone visiting Rainbow Mountain! P.S. Prepare for lots and lots of dust!
