Our guide was knowledgeable and amazing. Obviously he was passionate about his country and the food of each region. A joy to learn from. Be aware that this is not a food tour with wine. No wine offered. Small tastings at 3 places. We went in thinking we were going to taste lots of different foods and wine and that is not what this tour was about. Interesting but misleading advertising.

On the number of stops: with a 6 tasting option, it is not uncommon for the experience to be spread across fewer locations with multiple tastings at each, which means 3 stops with 2 tastings each is consistent with the format. Diego did an amazing job of showing us around old town, providing some history and some amazing food!
Booked this tour through Chase Travel. Was very excited for this tour taken that me and my husband only have 1 day in Bologna and want to explore the food scene there. They called me the day before the tour asking about my food restrictions. I couldn’t call back to that number so contacted Chase to reach back to them, mentioned to them that I am pregnant so can’t eat raw meat and drink wine but my husband would be able to eat everything. They said thank you that no other information needed, then hear nothing back… On the day of the tour, showed up at the required meet up place 15 mins early. Patiently waited until 11:15am (meeting time is 11am), NOBODY showed up! No communication whatsoever, no email, no phone call (even though they were able to call me the day before). Felt like this is a waste of our only 1 day exploring Bologna …. Good thing of booking through Chase is that they were able to get us the refund, however our valuable time in Bologna and the chance to book a reliable travel agent was ruined.

When he attempted to call the number listed in the booking on the day of the tour, it reached the travel agency rather than you directly. He spoke with an agent who, due to privacy rules, could not share your phone number and tried to reach you on your behalf, but unfortunately was unsuccessful. Given the inability to establish direct contact and coordinate safely, especially in light of the dietary information shared, the host made the decision to cancel the tour rather than risk leaving you unsupported or delivering a poor experience. We recognize, however, that this decision was not communicated clearly or in a timely way to you, and we are truly sorry for the impact this had on your plans and your day in Bologna. While a full refund was processed, we know that this does not make up for the lost time or the disappointment you experienced. The tour was informative and sympathetic. But we expected a little more food and drink at this price for the ‘big variant’.

Advertised as six food and drink tastings. We had three food tasting (cannelloni, ham and cheese). We had one glass of Prosecco, which the guide wanted me to pay for originally. It did include vinegar tasting but I wouldn’t regard that as one of the six. Considering the cost and the delicious food you can get in Bologna at reasonable prices then don’t waste your money on this. I’ve asked Viator on two occasions what the tour should have included but no response! Worth noting that we are not hard to please, hence this was genuinely very poor and we were all disappointed!

We absolutely loved our tour and we loved doing it with Guiseppe. He was so knowledgeable and sweet! The food he chose was the best food we have had in Italy so far!
Request for Refund – Disappointing Food Tour Experience in Bologna Unfortunately, the experience fell far short of our expectations and was not reflective of the quality or authenticity we had hoped for—especially given the price ($250) and the strong culinary reputation of Bologna. Our guide arrived an hour late, which we were understanding about given his doctor’s appointment. However, the tour itself was underwhelming: The food selections were disappointing: the first stop offered dry, bland tortellini and meatballs that seemed like frozen appetizers from a fast food Italian counter. (First shop in the Market on the right, after you walk in the door) At the meat shop, we were given a few slices of prosciutto and ham with plain bread—nothing that felt curated or special. We were then taken to an uncomfortable location with “no video” signs on the door, where we felt distinctly out of place. We were served a very small glass of what seemed like very cheap wine. The highlights of the tour—visiting the balsamic vinegar store and the gelato shop—were led not by the guide but by store staff and vendors. The guide offered only minimal commentary and required prompting for basic context or history. Overall, the experience felt disorganized, lacked depth, and failed to showcase the rich culinary culture we traveled to Bologna from Milan to experience. It did not reflect the value promised by the tour description or the premium price point.($250 for 2 ) We were very much looking forward to this experience, and it’s disappointing to feel that our time and money were not well spent. Given the issues above, I believe a refund is warranted.

I waited at the designated place and no one came. I had high hopes for this tour I shoud've known better. I ended up cancelling the tour and got my money back.

I did this tour with Paulo. He made the tour fun. I liked most of the tastings. There are different ones with different styles of food. It was interesting and fun. A nice way to spend some time.
Fantastic experience! Frederik was very knowledgable about the food and also included history about Bologna during our private walking tour.
