Communication between the tour organisers was great, we were able to text at any hour with questions and always receive a response. We were well prepared because of this. The hike up itself was tough but we had our guide keeping our spirits high. Overall good trip and I would recommend it.
Eli was such a wonderful guide for our Rainbow Mountain trip! She was knowledgeable, friendly, and made the experience so enjoyable. We felt well taken care of the whole way and truly appreciated her warmth and energy. Highly recommend her to anyone visiting Rainbow Mountain! The pre-briefing via zoom was also very useful.
Incredible experience! Our guide was great! It was very well organized tour. We really enjoyed the food both breakfast and lunch. The driver was also very considerate and stopped when required.
The view is very nice. The hike is a bit hard for the height, but worth it. It is a natural paradise, where you can appreciate snow, alpacas, llamas and the mountain itself; feel a lot of peace.
Wow, what a day! Some of the most incredible sights we saw. We rented horses as we were told it would be more difficult than Lake Humantay, and it certainly gave us a lot more time at the top! We were blessed with great weather despite some snow, and couldn't believe the sights. Highly recommend going over to Red Valley and also down to the Giant Hands as the value for money was well spent!! Sonia was perfect at translating between Spanish and English , she made the day really fun for us 'Champions' ! She answered all questions we had, including many unrelated to the tour, just about other aspects of areas in Peru. She was incredibly attentive to make sure everyone was feeling well, and checked in with everyone individually several times during the day which is a really great trait for a tour guide, it's a really special extra touch! Ari and Nixon who organised the tour went above and beyond for us, dealing with our many questions with a big smile, and rearranging things last minute when personal issues arose - super grateful for their help and advice! Highly recommend, ask for Sonia!
I think the most omportant thing to know is that you can not see the Rainbow mountain on the hike unless you can physically walk up a very steep set of stone steps up the side of the mountain, that would be after you hike the probably two Mile Trail or you can rent the horses but the horses drop you off at the bottom of the mountain and unless you can then walk yourself up the steps you will not see the view and you will not see the Rainbow Mountain colors. The altitude there is equivalent to the base camp of Mount Everest just regular walking can be difficult to breathe, as a senior citizen I managed to make it to the top taking about eight steps at a time and then stopping the rest, if I had to guess I'm going to say several hundred steps to get to the top. Also you will be on a small bus on a very bumpy road to access the point. Another option is to rent the quad bikes which in hindsight that's a good idea because then you can ride them all the way to the top. But the scenery is breathtaking and if you really enjoy hiking you will love it, be prepared for very cold weather, bring a warm coat hat scarf and gloves and if you have walking poles I recommend them
I have taken a Rainbow Mountain tour with Mega Expeditions from Cusco in March 2025. The organisation was smooth, from pick-up from Cusco in the morning til the drop off in Cusco in the evening. The stuff was very helpful and make the trip, hike and overall experience unforgettable. I strongly recommend and wouldn't hesitate to use their services again!
Visiting Rainbow Mountain was an incredible adventure! The colors of the mountain made the challenging hike absolutely worth it. Our guide was knowledgeable and supportive, ensuring we acclimatized properly and took breaks when needed. The high altitude was tough, but the stunning views at the top were beyond rewarding. Seeing the vibrant layers of the mountain in person was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Highly recommend this tour for nature lovers and adventure seekers!
Everything about the tour was amazing!! I was first picked up right in front of my hostel. Then we drove through a beautiful landscape to the point from where we started to hike. We went on a 1,5 hours hike which was totally worth it! Through out the hike you could rent a horse if you didn’t wanted anymore and you could ride the way up! On the top of the mountain we had enough time to make photos and rest before going back down. The Gide answered every question we had and she was always by our side. I also had a phone number from the organizer if I had any questions or something I could always reach out to him and he would answer immediately and would make anything happened for me (because I had some extra wishes) !!
Reservations were made online and meetings were held on site. We didn't understand Spanish. I only spoke a little English, but they were very polite! There were explanations using video, and I could understand it well. They gave me sound advice. The pick-up in the car on the day was accurate. It was hard to climb Rainbow Mountain, but with the support of local Guides, everyone was able to climb and descend safely! It was such a lovely time ^_^
