Proseguendo verso sud facciamo una sosta al pittoresco Carter Bar ai margini delle colline di Cheviot. Questo incrocio tra Scozia e Inghilterra corre vicino all'antica strada romana e ha formato il confine tra i due paesi negli ultimi 700 anni.
Vallo di Adriano - La più selvaggia e settentrionale frontiera dell'antico impero romano. Seguiamo la strada che ci porta lungo il lato sud del muro, fermandoci a Steel Rigg. Hai il tempo di camminare accanto al muro e sperimentare l'isolamento che avrebbero avuto i fanti romani mentre sorvegliavano il loro impero dai "barbari" a nord.

Vindolanda è uno dei siti archeologici romani più importanti d'Europa. Vindolanda significa prati bianchi o campi bianchi. Sappiamo che il nome romano del forte era Vindolanda a causa di un altare eretto dai civili di Vindolanda al dio Vulcano e ritrovato durante i lavori di bonifica nel 1914. L'altare è esposto nel museo. Il nome Vindolanda è stato ritrovato anche su alcune tavolette da scrittura. (chiuso a gennaio).
Avrai una breve pausa nella città termale vittoriana di Moffat, che attirava visitatori nel XVIII e XIX secolo alla ricerca dei benefici per la salute delle sue sorgenti minerali. La città è famosa anche per il toffee Moffat, noto per il suo sapore burroso unico e la consistenza gommosa. Da Moffat, viaggerai verso nord, oltre il Parco Regionale delle Pentland Hills sulla via del ritorno a Edimburgo

The pacing was perfect. We went exactly where we wanted, did not have to worry about renting a car, driving in a foreign country plus learned fascinating local details we would never had learned without our guide, Stewart, telling us.
This was a great experience. Our guide Jack was very knowledgeable, friendly, and a great sense of humor. Steel Rig was a great place, I chose not to climb, but did walk down to meet the wall. Vinolandia was spectacular. The museum was well worth the trip, let alone wandering through the site. It was great not feel rushed. Moffett was a cute town, just wish things were open.
Did the Haridan's Wall day tour with Stephen. Couldnt have asked for a better drive/tour guide for the day. While the sights are well worth it, Stephen's knowledge made the trip all the better. Can't thank him enough for giving us such a memorable experience.
Our guide, Jim Scott, was by far the best part of the entire tour! He is incredible. He had us laughing all day, we learned a lot of interesting and unique facts, and he made us feel like we had been lifelong friends. Jim made the tour interactive and engaging, and he also took the time to take everyone’s pictures. A big bonus: he is a professional photographer, so the pictures turned out amazing! I appreciate the hard work and effort that Jim puts in. His energy, enthusiasm, wit, and charm are genuine; he truly wants his passengers to have the best time. And that’s exactly what you’ll get with him. I’ve been on several Rabbie’s tours, and while they have all been great, Jim is the best of the best and definitely the most memorable. He sets the bar high, and it shows. Whoever is lucky enough to be on his tours will not be disappointed. Thank you, Jim! You elevated my trip and are someone I will never forget.
We had a great time at the Wall. Wendy, our driver/guide, was fantastic. She explained things along the way and was very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend trip.
This was a great day! Our guide Jack was terrific and very knowledgable. We stopped at multiple locations for Hadrian's Wall, including Jedburgh and Cawfields and enjoyed the walk and the commentary. We also enjoyed the tour at the Roman ruins of Vindolanda. The bus was comfortable and Jack was a great driver and guide. He even gave us suggestions for authentic Scottish food and entertainment for our stay in Edinburgh.
Stephen was a súper guide, a raconteur who informed us about the history of the áreas we visited, especially the Román period in the British Isles. He told us plenty of Jones and stories that entertainment us . The Vinolanda site was impressive, as we’re the remnants of Hadrian’s Wall. The stop at Jedburgh village was interesting.
While the tour was good there is not enough time to do the guided tour, have lunch, visit the museum and spend time looking at the site. The best option is to byo your lunch before tour starts as the cafe on site is a long distance away from the site entrance and is slow to handle food orders. Also In our case because the tour starts so early be aware that you may not have time to have breakfast at your hotel and travel to the start point of the tour to be able to get there on time.
you just got to go, historic. I visited on wet and windy day but was still amazing, plenty of parking areas.
