This walking and bus city tour is the perfect way to experience Costa Rica's capital. The combo of bus and walking sightseeing hits all the key spots — National Theater, Art Museum, Central Market, and public plazas — without wearing you out. Our guide was an art historian with incredible knowledge of the city's history, and the traditional Costa Rican lunch included in the tour was a highlight on its own. The guitar player on the bus was a fun touch that set the mood from the start. Tips for future travelers: Wear comfortable shoes, bring a small umbrella, and don't skip the Central Market — just wish we had more time there! Ideal for first-timers. Highly recommend!
Their timings were amazing. Our guide Enrique was very knowledgeable, sweet and kind guy. He was able to tell us all the highlights of the city. The trips into the Museums of arts and gold were good. The National Theater lobby was beautiful and lastly the lunch was good. A very good trip for half of the day.
Hector the guide was wonderful, driver very helpful and the music by William added a little something else.
Excursion was worth it! Would have liked to spend more time in el Mercado since time given isn’t enough to look around or shop.
This was amazing! Our tour guide was so knowledgeable! The central market was my favorite. The energy and local flavor was so cool!
We made booking online and there's an option to choose the pick up point. So we choose hotel bougainvillea as our pick up point, since we're staying at that hotel. But to our surprise and shock, we received an email from the tour operator that hotel bougainvillea is not on their list of pickup points. They made us go to hotel radison for pick up. We had to spend for taxi on both the ways. This was very disappointing.
Don't bother. There was little of interest presented and the meal was the basic rice, beans, and chicken or beef.
There is a lot of time on the bus...We could have walked and seen more. We would have liked to see inside the theatre and had more time at the gold museum.
Tour guide knowledgeable and personable
I appreciated the fact that a shuttle picked us up at the hotel to take us to the tour meeting point, but I did not find the pick up time clearly indicated in any of the correspondence. That caused some confusion. Also, of our group of approximately 13, only three of us spoke English. That meant that the commentary needed to be done twice, which was clunky. I did enjoy the sites we visited and was perfectly fine with the short amount of time allotted to each just to give us a taste. And the traditional lunch was quite good. However, with the exception of a good summary of some of the history of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, almost no commentary was given while we were in the bus. I would have enjoyed hearing more about the history of both San Jose and Costa Rica, and it would have been nice to know something about the areas of town we were driving through. We passed a gorgeous huge cemetery, and I had to specifically ask the guide about it.
