Itinerario
Per coloro che aderiscono all’opzione Boat Cruise, la nostra prima tappa della giornata sarà nella città di Callander; “The Gateway to the Highlands.” Situato ai piedi dei Trossachs Callander offre ai suoi ospiti un sacco di spazio per rifornirsi di rinfreschi, regali e viste verso i Trossachs. **Si prega di notare che la versione Castle & Cruise guiderà il percorso in riserva e farà una sosta di comfort alternativa a causa degli orari di apertura limitati a Callander**
Passeggeri che aderiscono all'opzione Whisky Distillery, il vostro viaggio inizia con una visita alla Deanston Distillery invece di Callander. Ospitata in un ex cotonificio e situata sulle rive del fiume Teith, la distilleria produce una gamma di whisky single malt di alta qualità. Appena entriamo nel ‘Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park’ il nostro autobus si snoda tra colline, montagne e Glens. Questi luoghi remoti erano un tempo abitati dai clan delle Highland, per non parlare del più famoso fuorilegge scozzese, Rob Roy MacGregor, che alcuni considerano il Robin Hood scozzese. Guarda attraverso il paesaggio e immagina com'era mentre ascolti le straordinarie storie sanguinarie di tradimento e vendetta raccontate dalla tua guida.
Il tour ti porterà poi attraverso Fort William e oltre lo spettacolare Ben Nevis, la montagna più alta delle isole britanniche. La catena Nevis domina la strada tortuosa mentre prosegui il tuo viaggio verso Loch Ness.
Ci fermiamo per una breve visita a Glencoe, teatro di uno dei massacri più scioccanti della Scozia. Mentre si guardano le colline infestanti, si nota che il Glen è stranamente silenzioso. Nel XVII secolo si verificò qui uno dei peggiori atti di tradimento. La tua guida racconterà i dettagli di questo tradimento per te. Si può quasi sentire il dolore sulle montagne della “valle del pianto”. Soprattutto, però, Glencoe è uno dei paesaggi più belli della Scozia. Un punto culminante di qualsiasi tour alle Highlands scozzesi!
Versione Castle & Cruise : Arrivo alla riva nord del Loch Ness. Partecipa a una crociera facoltativa e visita del castello. Sbarca al Castello di Urquhart per esplorare queste magnifiche rovine. Si prega di notare che questa versione non si fermerà a Fort Augustus. Crociera in barca e versioni Whisky Distillery : Arriviamo a Fort Augustus, un incantevole villaggio delle Highlands sulle rive meridionali del lago. Se hai prenotato l'opzione crociera in barca avrai la possibilità di fare una crociera di 1 ora sul lago con i nostri amici a Cruise Loch Ness. Chi non partecipa alla crociera facoltativa e chi alla versione Whisky Distillery, avrà tempo per esplorare il villaggio e il bellissimo Canale di Caledonia, che scende attraverso il cuore del villaggio a Loch Ness. Camminate ancora lungo il canale e se c'è tempo, nella campagna circostante per godere di una vista sulle montagne. **L'opzione Whisky Distillery avrà una sosta più breve a Fort Augustus, circa 45 - 60 minuti.**
Lungo il percorso, ci fermeremo al Memoriale del Commando. * Si prega di notare che la versione Castle & Cruise del tour potrebbe non effettuare questa fermata, a causa di limitazioni di tempo.* Nel 1942, questo ambiente divenne il terreno di addestramento per le forze speciali britanniche. Duro, spietato e di una bellezza mozzafiato. Una statua dei nostri eroi domina la catena dei Nevis. Portate una macchina fotografica – questa è senza dubbio una delle nostre soste fotografiche preferite in tutta la Scozia. Qui, tempo permettendo, si poteva avvistare anche il Ben Nevis. La montagna più alta del Regno Unito.
Dirigendoci verso sud viaggiamo attraverso il Parco Nazionale di Cairngorm dove si possono trovare scoiattoli rossi, caprioli, cervi rossi, poiane svettanti, martore, aquile reali e falchi. La nostra ultima tappa della giornata è Pitlochry
Sulla strada verso sud, ci fermiamo presso la città di Pitlochry per sgranchirci le gambe e goderci l'aria fresca. Questa pittoresca cittadina è situata nel cuore dello splendido scenario delle Highland Perthshire. Si trova sotto Beinn Bhracaigh (Ben Vrackie), la montagna maculata e accanto al fiume Tummel, in alcuni dei paesaggi più magnifici della Scozia. Con uno sfondo di colline circostanti e splendidi boschi, è meraviglioso paese a piedi.
Mentre rientriamo a Edimburgo da nord, ti troverai di fronte alla più grande opera di ingegneria della Scozia e a un sito patrimonio mondiale dell'UNESCO, il Forth Bridge. Questa meraviglia ingegneristica del XIX secolo era a un certo punto il ponte a sbalzo più lungo del mondo. Oggi confina con il Forth Road Bridge del XX secolo e con il Queensferry Crossing del XXI secolo, inaugurato nel 2017. Tre spettacolari ponti, di tre secoli diversi, attraversano il Firth of Forth collegando la nostra capitale e il Regno di Fife.

A causa della distanza percorsa una grande parte del tour viene spesa sul bus, ammirando i panorami e gli scenari della Scozia. Qualsiasi tempo non considerato nell'itinerario viene speso viaggiando attraverso la Scozia in autobus.
- Nota: per gestire la domanda e proteggere i centri minori durante l'alta stagione, il percorso può essere inverso. Una parte significativa del tour viene spesa sul bus, consentendo di rilassarsi e immergersi nei panorami mozzafiato delle Highlands.

Sadly, through no fault of the driver, William, we were left disappointed and somewhat deflated by the tour. There was a major RTA on the way to Loch Ness, and after sitting in stationary traffic for a long time, and with no mobile phone signal or internet, the driver made the decision to turn around and give us another tour, his thoughts were Oban and another picturesque town (which I can’t recall). By the time we were all able to get a phone signal, and when William was able to make contact with his office, he was advised that he needed to return to the set itinerary. By this time it was late morning. As a detour had already been taken, this added another 2 hours onto the day. We were supposed to go on a boat trip on Loch Ness at 3pm, but were not going to make it, so this was revised to 4pm, which was then cancelled due to high winds. The opportunity to see Highland Cows was gone, as the place would have been closed by the time we arrived. When we arrived at Loch Ness, the toilets were closed, along with a lot of the shops. The final stop at Pitlochry was the same, everywhere to buy any souvenirs closed. An early start and drop off at 10pm was an extremely long day, with most of the day was spent on the coach with very little opportunity to see local towns close up. It felt the stops we did were predominantly for toilet breaks and to pick up something to eat 😔.
This tour was very informative and fun. Ross was an excellent guide and driver. Hos stories were interesting and funny. I would reccomend this tour to anybody that wants to get out of the city to see thw countryside and not worry about driving yourself.

This was a great tour. Brendan was funny, knowledgeable and really brought the tour to life! We packed a lot into the day and were able to see Loch Ness, the Scottish highlands and beautiful countryside. Definitely worth going in this tour.
I am writing to make a formal complaint regarding the Highland Highlights and Deanston Whisky Tour that I booked through Viator for 30 August. The total amount I paid was £107.36. I understand that unforeseen circumstances can happen, including a driver becoming ill. However, I am extremely disappointed with the way the cancellation was handled. We arrived at the designated meeting point at 8:00am as instructed, only to be told when we arrived that our driver was sick and that our booked tour could not operate. We had received no notification before travelling to the meeting point. This was particularly disappointing because we had specifically chosen this tour for its advertised itinerary, including the Deanston whisky experience and Loch Ness. These were important reasons why we selected this particular tour. We were then told that the only alternative was to join another tour available that day or leave and arrange a refund. As we had already made plans around this day trip and had travelled to the meeting point, we felt that we had very little choice but to accept the alternative tour. I would like to emphasise that our complaint is not directed towards Mari, our replacement guide. She was great and did her best in a difficult situation. Our concern is with the cancellation of the tour we had booked and the lack of advance notification or a suitable replacement that would provide the experience we had paid for. The alternative tour was not the tour we had booked and did not provide the same itinerary. In particular, we did not receive the Deanston whisky tour and did not get the Loch Ness experience we had expected. The replacement tour also appeared to be very busy, which further affected the overall experience. The disappointment began before the tour even started. We had travelled to the meeting point expecting to enjoy a specific experience, only to discover at 8:00am that it had been cancelled. We then had to make a last-minute decision without having been given reasonable advance notice. I have also noted that The Hairy Coo's terms and conditions state that, for a 1-day tour cancellation, you aim to provide a minimum of 24 hours' notice where possible, and that where a tour is cancelled prior to departure, all monies paid for that tour will be refunded. I appreciate that the driver's illness may have been unavoidable. However, the way the situation was handled left us without the tour we had booked and with no meaningful opportunity to make alternative arrangements before travelling to the meeting point. We did accept the alternative tour, so I am not asking for a full refund. However, considering the significant difference between the tour we booked and the experience we received, I believe a 50% partial refund (£53.68) would be a fair and reasonable resolution. I would therefore ask The Hairy Coo to review this complaint and consider refunding £53.68 to reflect the significant elements of the original tour that were not provided. I hope you will understand our position and resolve this fairly. We were really looking forward to this trip, and unfortunately the last-minute cancellation and replacement tour substantially changed the experience we had paid for.
Great tour! Only downside was the limited time spent at Loch Ness; we had to rush through the castle.

Slightly annoyed that I was expected to sit separate from my husband as it was a tour for our anniversary . Surely if you book 2 people and turn up at 7.20 and are almost at the front of the queue you should be able to sit together . However I have no complaints about the driver . Mark ( Australian ) sorted the seating out after the first stop which was very kind of him . The company should have a better booking system . I felt a bit awkward and felt sorry for mark who then had to ask people to move . Mark was vey upbeat friendly and full of knowledge . He made what was to be a long bus trip seem a lot shorter because of his interesting chat and knowledge of all the areas we passed through . He was a lovely driver and very friendly . Loch Ness was lovely . But it is a long day thank goodness mark was so chatty otherwise the trip would have seemed even longer . We had a lovely day mostly because of the boat trip on Loch Ness and mark . Maybe the company could sort the booking system out . The food stops were also not great . Maybe stop at fort William instead of a roadside cafe with a spat and a hotel that was closed for food . So was a mad dash to get something to eat
