This was a good tour. The...

This was a good tour. The guide we had was a local who had many stories to share and was quite informative. The information he gives is on the bus, but he does not come out and guide you at the various stops (unlike some of the other tours). One feedback I would give is the information on Viator regarding the itinerary was a little unclear so wanted to clarify what to expect. It was about 6.5 hours total. You start with the Godafoss waterfall. The sites of Lake Myvatn (for about 3 hours) is basically everything else. There were only two people in our group who did the Earth Lagoon portion (they got about an hour). We were already doing the Blue Lagoon in Reykavik so did not do this portion. While the two were at the Earth Lagoon, the rest of the bus got 30 minutes for lunch and then went to the Grjotagja caves (tectonic plates meet and also a Game of Thrones filming site) nearby for about 30 minutes (if you book the lagoon, you miss the caves). Of note, while the lagoon was more like 4 hours into the tour, it was not a big deal that the two booked it 3 hours in. The mud pools and pots are similar to the Yellowstone area. The sulfur smells are definitely powerful (one of my boys didn’t want to stay in the area accordingly). With all that said, this was a good tour and certainly hits the highlights we wanted to see!

The itinerary was good and included things we wanted to see or do. The Guide was not great. He did not provide information that would have been useful, the timing of the itinerary was not followed and the Guide seemed confused. Similar itinerary offered by other companies.

Perfect day trip

Our guide was fantastic! He shared so much info about Iceland in such an interesting way! We had plenty of time at each stop and appreciated being dropped off in town to explore more on our own. It was such an interesting trip!

Very friendly and fun driver

The driver was exceptionally friendly, fun and knowledgeable. I sat in the front seat of the minivan that he drove and so was able to talk to him a lot.

Great day out

Our guide was wonderful, gave us a lot of information and told us about the different areas and lore. I would say my least favorite part was the mud pits, they were fine but the sulfur was a bit overwhelming. The falls were beautiful, the tectonic plate was cool. Enjoyed the smaller group, the bus was a bit warm. Over all recommend :)

Amazing Tour of Godafossand Lake Myvatn!

This tour with Imagine Iceland Travel was amazing. Our guide, Biggi, did everything possible to ensure that we had the best experience. His thoughtful planning for photo stops, bathroom breaks, lunchtime location, and even the routes he took to avoid large crowds made the day even more enjoyable. He was patient, knowledgeable, and had a great sense of humor. The variety of landscapes we saw and experiences we enjoyed really enhanced our enjoyment and learning about this part of Iceland. Highly recommend this tour, especially if you get the same guide!

Poorly organized and too rushed

We took this tour while visiting Akureyri on a cruise stop on June 29. We arrived on the Viking Mira, which had an all‑aboard time of 4 p.m. Another ship, the much larger Norwegian Star, was also in port with a later all‑aboard time of 6 p.m. This detail matters because it shaped the experience and explains why this review is not very positive. When we disembarked for our 9:30 a.m. tour, we expected to meet Imagine Iceland at the pier. Instead, we were directed to walk to the tour huts on the opposite side of the port, near the Norwegian Dawn. When we arrived, the area was chaotic. The Dawn had arrived late, and the tour operator was trying to reorganize multiple groups at the last minute. The coordinator attempted to place us on an early coach that was leaving at 9 a.m., but by the time he tried to flag it down, it had already departed. We ended up in a mini‑coach filled with passengers from the Dawn. The tour left and I became concerned because this delay was cutting into the buffer we expected to have for returning to our ship. I asked our guide and driver, Toti, what time we would be back at the port. His answer was 4:30 p.m., which was thirty minutes after our all‑aboard time. He seemed genuinely surprised that we needed to return earlier, and it appeared he had assumed everyone on board was from the Dawn. I believe this misunderstanding affected the rest of the day. We were stressed about getting back on time, and Toti had to figure out how to cover the tour highlights while still returning us to the port as quickly as possible. As a result, the stops felt rushed and did not allow enough time to explore. At each location, passengers had to ask Toti when to return to the bus, and he did not seem to have a clear plan. To make matters worse, two guests were consistently late returning after every stop. In fact, at one point, a guest realized she had left her cell phone in a restroom at a previous stop. Toti took her back to retrieve it while we were at the Hverir Mud Pools, but neglected to mention it to anybody, so when we came back to the parking lot the coach was nowhere to be found. It often felt like we barely had enough time to step off the bus, walk to a viewpoint, and take a photo before needing to return. The stop at the Myvatn Earth Lagoon was removed because of construction, and the Grjotagja Rift and Cave was added instead. We never entered the cave because the line was too long. The visit to the Dimmuborgir lava fields was so short that we could only walk the main path. There was also an unnecessary lunch stop that consumed even more time and was not part of our original itinerary. I attribute all of this to confusion caused by mixing passengers from two ships with very different all‑aboard times. It was not fair to us or to the passengers from the Norwegian Dawn. I later spoke with a relative who took this same tour with Imagine Iceland last year, and his experience was far more positive. I am sure this is a reputable tour company, but the circumstances of our day did not reflect the quality they are known for.
