Khor Virap è il più famoso sito di pellegrinaggio in Armenia, in quanto è direttamente collegato con l'adozione del cristianesimo. Come religione di stato, il cristianesimo in Armenia fu adottato nel 301 grazie agli sforzi di San Gregorio L'Illuminatore, che, prima di convertire il re Trdat III al cristianesimo, fu imprigionato nelle segrete, sulle quali fu costruita una chiesa del monastero di Khor Virap nel XVII secolo. Dal monastero si può ammirare la vista mozzafiato del Monte Ararat biblico.
Diffuso tra le montagne, Azat Reservoir unisce acqua e cielo, creando uno dei panorami più impressionanti e pacifici dell'Armenia.
Il tempio di Garni, che sovrasta un promontorio triangolare, è l'unico esempio sopravvissuto di cultura pagana in Armenia. È una miscela di stili greco-romani e armeni. Re Trdat Il Primo ordinò la costruzione del tempio nel I secolo d.C. e lo dedicò al Dio del Sole.Dopo aver adottato il cristianesimo nel 301, il tempio pagano perse il suo significato e la fortezza di Garni divenne la residenza estiva dei re. Al giorno d'oggi le rovine del palazzo reale e il bagno con una splendida opera a mosaico si trovano vicino al tempio.
Il monastero di Geghard è l'insuperabile capolavoro dell'architettura armena del XIII secolo. Alcune delle chiese del complesso sono magistralmente scavate in un'enorme roccia. Fin dall'inizio il complesso fu chiamato Ayrivank (monastero delle grotte), in seguito fu ribattezzato Geghard (lancia) poiché la lancia, usata dal soldato romano per pungere il fianco di Gesù Cristo, era stata custodita in questo monastero per molti secoli. Grazie alla sua costruzione, Geghardavank serve il posto migliore per cantare canzoni spirituali. Il complesso è ricco di sottili abbellimenti scultorei e molti suggestivi khachkar (pietre crociate). Il sito è incluso nella lista del patrimonio culturale mondiale dell'UNESCO.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience on this tour! Everything was perfectly organized, and they were very punctual and fully committed to the schedule. A very special thank you to our amazing guide, Tatevik. She was incredibly kind, friendly, patient, and helpful throughout the entire trip. She always made sure that everyone was comfortable, answered all our questions, and explained everything in a very interesting and clear way. Her warm personality and positive energy made the whole experience even more enjoyable. She truly went above and beyond to make our day special. Our driver, Khachik, was also excellent, professional, punctual, and drove very safely. We felt comfortable and relaxed during the entire journey. We went on an individual tour to the monasteries of Khor Virap, Noravank, Gegard and the Temple of Garni. Besides the main points of the tour, driver Arakel showed us many interesting places: the village with storks, the Azatic reservoir, beautiful views of mountain passes and Ararat. The company arranged for us to have lunch at the Noravanck monastery with a great view of the rocks. Overall, the tour went very well, if we book tours, it will only be in this campaign

I booked the private tour from Hyur’s official website - which is much cheaper than the one advertised on Tripadvisor (I suppose TA takes commission). The customer service contacted me three days prior to confirm the details and answered all kinds of my questions. The driver Arman was very professional and polite and went above and beyond to take me to bus station twice to purchase an intercity mini bus ticket. He couldn’t speak much English but whenever it’s something important he called his office to translate to me to make sure there is no misunderstanding. At each place, I got to spend as much time as I wanted and enjoyed the great views and architectures of the monasteries. Highly recommend this private tour to people who want to travel at their own pace.
